Players made scapegoats and unfairly treated by fans

Sibierski always got tons of abuse near me, during matches, while warming up, whatever.

He had limitations but always did his best. I always thought he needed to play just for defending set pieces as much as anything as there was only Dunne, Distin and him who were over about 5 foot 8.

Adrian Heath used to get it worse than anybody else for me.

That match against Coventry, for Edghill, was horrific but with Heath it seemed consistent over a prolonged period.

I remember he skied one against Arsenal in the Carling/Rumbelows Cup or whatever it was called back then. The criticism was vicious.

Nigel Clough was another.
Nigel Clough?

Kolarov used to get an awful lot of shit, completely undeserved. If we were abusing any left back in those days it should have been DJ Gael.

Seem to recall Heath even getting booed on on his debut which is quite an achievement. He was one of many ex Everton players signed by Kendall and part of their successful mid 80s team where he had clearly been decent. Wasnt that old when he came to us but a shocking scoring record while the popular Clive Allen was on the bench was never going to win the crowd over.

No it was the perfect storm for fans to dislike him, but of course none of it his own making. He was shocking though, Wiki says 75 Lge games 4 goals.

Another strange one - Dzeko. He would get into any other Prem team at that time, and was coveted by many. What really got me was how he was, as you say, singled out, but Balotelli wasn't.

Dzeko is twice the player Balotelli is/was. I always thought his antics off the pitch gave him too many fanboys and that gave him more leeway on the pitch when he was bang average at times and very frustrating.

Funny how their respective careers panned out after leaving.

I can remember seeing two blokes in the South Stand nearly getting in a scrap about Balotelli in the 11-12 season when we were 1-3 down v Sunderland. Kolarov got the equaliser.

I sit at that southern end of the Colin Bell in 93-20 and I remember Kolorov getting badly abused by the South Stand ‘faithful’! A few times. And having a go back on more than one occasion. Really not necessary - criticise all you want but abusing our own players is way out of order... particularly during a match. When it’s going badly you need the support to lift you, not rub your nose in it.
