Players who might improve us

Yes, there are exceptions. But by and large, taller players are better in the air. Tim Cahill is average height and an exceptional header. Aguero is a pretty good one for his height. But Dave is damn near useless with the outside of his head. No surprise there, the inside of his head is magical.

The strike radius for a taller player is just greater. Yes, you have your exceptional short leapers. And your Crocodile neck tall guys (Yaya being a good example). But by and large taller players score more goals with their head.

More of the rule though. There are plenty of tall players not being very good in the air

Actually that's not correct. There a lots of tall players who aren't great in the air. But a majority of them are good on the air. Only a slight minority fall into the Not Good category. The inverse is almost the case for short players.

Even from a confidence standpoint, the crosser of the ball is more likely to whip it in the air with two 6 footers or above running into the box than he is with two 5'6 guys. Especially when they are being defended by 6'1 Central defenders.

Some ideas just fail the eye test.

its still down to the timing and nothing to do with the height. Aggression helps as well.

A player with the height of Jesus Navas can be the best "timing" master in the world but he would never jump high enough to beat a 6ft tall defender in the air. Drop the argument, you can't go against nature! Even in basketball, Iverson never dunked over taller players, he based his game on dribbling, trickery and 3 pointers.

Puyol and Cannavaro were great in the air despite their lack of height. Otamendi didn't do too badly in his prime either.

There aren't many skilled headers of the ball around in modern football big or small.

I don't know if it's the fear of brain damage etc means they don't practice it, but it's one particular skill which all of the best exponents I've seen, are from when I was a kid.
