Players who might improve us

To determine whether a player is going to be of the appropriate quality we must ask ourselves the question whether Real Madrid/ Bayern Munich (or maybe Liverpool) would want the player, if the answer is no then why should we. City are a top table team and therefore top table players are required.

When we played them in our treble winning season I would say Walker, Stones, Dias, Kev, Rodri, Silva and Haaland get in their team

Bit simplistic that. Look at Gravenberch. Surplus to requirements at Munich. Most thought he was average when Liverpool bought him but he now looks like an integral part of their midfield.

He was at Bayern, surprised they let him go. Usually they only let go of the players that just aren’t up to standard. Bayern did have a strange year for them not winning the league.

The above suggestion is a bit simplistic and it’s suggested as a general rule to not think small on the signings if we truly want to compete. This is not to say bargains cannot be had, Madrid not frightened of a free transfer or 3

Liverpool, Madrid and Munich have several players that are squad players and would not normally start when all players are fit.
Curtis Jones, Bradley, Elliott, Gravenberch, Kelleher and Joe Gomez are all important members of the liverpool squad.
All of these have played recently and Slott is not scared to bring them in when he has injuries and suspensions to his " preferred starting" players.

I think you are correct to expect our fans to use this as a parameter to gauge a players quality, but it should not be used as the only parameter alone.

As for City I doubt they would use this as a parameter to gauge a player, not at least until they decide they have a strong interest in one and then they may ask themselves would the player be the type that would get in the very best sides like Madrid.

I get the gist of what you are asking though.

No really news but to compete with Madrid there is a need for some A list signings, they won’t be cheap nor easy to get. The same determination that we showed to get Kev and Haaland will be needed except this time it needs to be repeated 3-4 times over due to our capitulation

As to “Players who might improve us” and bearing in mind the potential effect of our current form/worse case scenario of the 115/130 charges we need to ask the question “But could they do it on a wet Tuesday night at Stoke in February?”.

I was reading about him about a week ago and he is highly regarded and French club Nice are open to sell him or Kevin Danso as they need the money. I have heard Newcastle are interested.

In 2022 he left his Uzbekistan club for a club in Belorussia. I don’t know anything about clubs in either of those countries. Then 1 year after joining the Belorussian team Lens signed him in 2023.

He looks really strong, certainly looks like he could handle the physicality.

Edit: was having a bad day when I wrote this up, got his country wrong originally put Tajikistan and his club side as Nice instead of Lens. Must have went brain dead for a while on that morning.

Watched him a few times. Biggest attribute is he has really good defensive leadership and organizational skills. Takes responsibility on the pitch. That Vinnie, Ruben type gene.

Manu Akanji says hi.
Sometimes it's not about how brilliant one individual is, it's about what they bring to the TEAM.

not seen any links with this player but Milenkovic at Forest looks a quality defender, 6’4” no nonsense serbian defender, 27 years old and now has premier league experience - and so far no injuries for him which is a bonus unlike our defenders, would be a decent signing if we could get him.

Just signed with Jorge Mendes to get a move as well. (rumoured)

Wolves pushing hard on him as well
