I agree LC - shocked at how 'flat' the atmosphere was - it was a Semi for frig's sake!

Made it much worse to hear the Scousers so loud and clear.

(My family taped the game too and I just watched it again earlier and the noise was as poor as I thought)

Not many guy whos are up for an atmosphere can afford to pay £37 to watch a game so soon after Christmas, those that are lucky to want to get their monies worth watching the game.

All the best atmosphere's have come when tickets have been cheap to buy. I remember the Hamburg game, all i did for 90 mins was make a racket, my throat was fucked by the end, i cannot remember the game itself but i didn't mind as it only cost me a fiver.

Yeah, Hamburg was special. :o)

The thing about the money (pissed me off too) is that it wasn't City's fault. Same with the derby in the FA Cup. You see, the opposition have to agree, I believe, as they get a cut of the takings. Clearly Liverpool and United didn't want to make them cheap, so we had to comply.

how can you not blame city if they wanted the tickets cheaper they could have the club have been charging ridiculous prices all season it was 48 pound agianst norwich to sit in the third tier

Prices were ridiculous considering so soon after Christmas. I had a ticket for last night but in the end couldn't go. Gave it away to my brother for free as he coudn't afford a ticket himself and I didn't want the ticket to go to waste.

That's correct IMO. I don't think we can point the finger at City on this, as prices were more or less in line with League games. I paid £37.50 and £20 for my (student) son in our usual seats in EL3. That IMO is reasonable for a Cup Semi-Final.

I do believe however that last night we saw the repercussions of the Family Stand fiasco. I can't think of another PL Club which devotes an entire end of the ground to Families and this is coming back to bite City.

The FS had swathes of open spaces mainly because a lot of families simply couldn't afford so many games coming in such a short time, so something had to give. The other issue is that unless you are accompanied by a Junior then you can't buy a ticket at that end. I assume that was still the case for last night. That is bound to have some effect on the number of 'occasional' supporters' who might otherwise take up vacant seats. I think these were the 2 main reasons why many stayed away and watched it on TV.

The other fall-out from the Family Stand arrangement is that whilst City may have gained a lot of younger supporters they have most certainly lost older fans who for whatever reason found being moved from the North Stand unacceptable (unable to climb spirals, break-up of groups etc etc). Once people stop going to the match it's difficult to prise them away from the TV. That's a group which don't even fall into the 'occasional' category as City have most likely lost them forever. For example, I know of 4 guys who have jacked it in because they were split up. Guys who had been supporting City all their lives but didn't like the idea of being moved piece-meal to parts of the stadium where they didn't want to sit in the first place.

At present the only way we'll fill the Family Stand on a regular basis for Cup games is to offer cheap seats (£5) for kids. If the opposing Club don't agree then that's it : 36,000 tops for these games.

Failing that, and since City have already conceded that the FS was a mistake, they might wish to consider re-arranging that end of the ground and giving part of it back to open-age supporters.

I'll get flak for this but what the hell
36,000 last night was embarrassing. I wish people would stop going on about the cost, the family stand, two expensive games within 4 days etc etc.
Following a successful club is going to be expensive, by its very nature it means more games and hence more £'s.
The price of tickets in the other semi Palace v Cardiff was £25-£35 according to their websites, so our prices were not particularly expensive. Yes, its just after Christmas but this happens every year with the FA Cup 3rd round on the first weekend in January and the League Cup during the middle of January.
The 10,000 empty seats were spread throughout the stadium not just in the family stand, level 3 in the East and Colin Bell stands were just as sparse.
Lets face it 6000 scousers made the journey to the Eithad, and sold out their allocation at the same cost. We have not sold out for Anfield yet and I doubt we will.
Last night cost me around £90 to attend the game with travelling and food, but having been starved of success I thought it worthwhile. I travelled alone from Birmingham and got home around midnight, having been up for work at 5am it was a long day. And then only 5 hours sleep before getting up again.
I cannot understand why the "local" supporters were not out in force, a City supporter that travels up from Portsmouth was interviewed in City Square so some people definitely made the effort.
We all have to chose what we spend our hard-earned up on and it is an individual choice but if your budget does not stretch to taking the wife and kids then, heres a thought why not just go yourself or take just one of the kids. Just don't moan that City are ripping you off because they are not.
It surprises me that some people would prefer to spend £28 going to Wigan on a Monday night as opposed to attending the semi final at the Eithad. Both games televised?
Too many on this site go on about being there in the dark days (York, Macclesfield, Lincoln etc) and I get the feeling that some of them would still prefer thats where we were.
Yes the Carling Cup is not exactly the most respected cup competition but this was a semi-final first leg. The lack of attendance sends out a message to our owner that the sleeping giant he bought may not necessary be the giant he thought.
We cannot say "the City is ours" if we cannot sell out major fixtures when the population of Manchester is 499,000 (2010) and the Greater Manchester area is 2.2 million (2010).
In my opinion we need to find 10,000+ glory-hunters quickly before our owner decides that we are not worthy and shows the same dis-interested as some of the fans.
Rant over.

...yeah buh' why the fuck did you have to vent all that out on Nasri whilst makin ya way home via the Parkway ? ! ?

and you drive a really shite car to boot lol

My only concern is that the owners get impatient , and realise thet have spent a fortune on one of the best squads in europe , and they cant even get locals to fill our stadium , nevermind attract a world wide fan base. But you cant criticise city supporters , Yooonited, scousers and arsenal have built there fan base for 20 years, and they attract a lot of gloryhunters and daytrippers,we havent reached that stage yet. And 95% of football clubs attendances are down this year , and yet we virtually sell out every premiership game home and away, so let the media and supporters of other clubs criticise our attendances all they want , we are still the 4th best supported team in the country.

No fan should ever be made to pay over £25 for any game IMO.

I wish I was there in the days when an FA Cup Finals ticket was 80p, they respected fans then.

Just because the club becomes rich and the players become expensive doesn't mean that the fans suddenly become rich. Do they really think that now they're rich and successful we can afford to pay more to see city, in this economic climate, after Christmas and ripping us off a few days earlier. Modern football makes me sick...but now I'm addicted.
