Plzen vs City post match thread

We were okay. Good in spells, sloppy in others. They were a positive team and played forward thinking football and we'll score goals against anyone who plays like that against us.

Nastasić and Agüero were class. Nasri played well too.

These aren't the games that concern me. It's our inability to break down packed defences.

Fans were good for once last night. Should be like that all the time.

We were getting to a point where all games were getting a little concerning to be honest. We've been very poor against plenty of teams that have had a good go at us. Struggled against pressing, struggled against parked buses - it was like we expected the space to place, but none of the caveats that come with a team giving up that space, like getting in our face.

To be able to do a Euro away, something tricky in itself for us, against a team that's won 10 of its last 11 Euro home games is a fair nights work IMO. I'd agree that on balance, we were fair to good, the beginning of the second half largely making up for a poor first, and it was just killing the game off after the third went in. But we should still be very, very happy with that result. Could have made that far more difficult for ourselves.

Wonderful result.

Only listened to game on Radio Manchester and via mcfc's on-line matchday thingy, so I don't have the same appreciation of watching the game live.

But it does sound like we are beginning to find our feet with the new style of play, but my slight concern is that we seemed to rely heavily on Kompany being in the team for it work.

If we beat the scum on Sunday, then my doubts about Pelligrini will disappear (I hope).

First up - well played to the supporters who went to the game, sounded fantastic on TV. Also to the City fan sat with the home support who celebrated every goal (obviously a local I would have thought).

.. and secondly, credit to the officials who got most things right.

An entertaining game - I called 3-0 at half-time. Yes, our defence looked a little troubled at times in the first half and there's some improvement needed for Sunday, but it was clear Plzen would weaken second half, but fair play to them, they are good enough to take points from CSKA when they visit.

Sunday will be difficult though - I can see another nail-biter, 3-2 win, perhaps.

Hi everyone,

Is it alright if I stay buzzing for another few days? I went to bed at 4.15 am buzzing and with the Negredo, Aguero song going through my head and have woken up about an hour ago with the Vincent Kompany song going through my head, still buzzing!!

We were magnificent, we were brilliant, we were awesome, Ya Ya released from his shackles is a sensation............. the fans were fantastic, the spider man climbing the fencing was hilarious, ............................... do you get the drift???

Onwards and upwards as always with Manchester City, The Boys in Blue never give in!!

One thing that really made me laugh................... I shouted 'oi you, leave our Zaba aione' at a Plzen player for trying to bring down Zaba, of course everything round me had gone quiet for that moment, and one of our fans turned round and looked at me and I said, 'I'm sorry' and he said................ 'no, that's alright, just never heard a woman shout so loud at a match before'!!! :-)

fantastic experience as it was my first "away" match :-)

Very good that you enjoyed the evening Vacfie and welcome to the board of Bluemoon.

Great result, it was needed but I think Bayern and CSKA will win at Plzen so I see a very similar case like in 2011 group stage where the 3 better teams all made 6 points vs the weakest.

Bayern-Napoli-City now Bayern-CSKA-City. All will have 6 points from the Plzen games.

So the only thing is sure we go to Europa League at least this season.

The real tough matches for qualification will be against a lot better CSKA side but until that we have a month at least Pellegrini needs to work well and improve the team until that.
I think 4 points vs CSKA would be very good and would decide our fate for going trough.

The results against Bayern would be a bonus, with small outside chance for finishing top of group which would be fantastic but would accept a 2nd place right now.

Vinnie back, Yaya moves further forward and that is the result, much much better... Thought Nasri and Serg were excellent
Who was that with Miss Pike on tv, someone said it was Arnies daughter, fair play you were both giving it your all

Lucky enough to be one of those attending last night.
What a great place for a European trip, not quite in the Porto league and a small stadium as well but the place was worth looking around, the locals were friendly enough and happy to change your money for you and happy to speak English given the chance. This whole CL experience is relatively new to them as it is with us and from what I saw on the day everyone mixed quite well.

The buses from the airport dropped us off at the ground, a 5 minute walk to the Old Town, great trip on Sport Options, by the way.
The town was full of bars and City were seen at most of them as I took a wander around. The prices ranged from cheap to very cheap which is obviously a key factor for many (at one point we ran a tab which was for 5 beers, a coffee and a big plate of chips which came to around £9) and this was at a bar which we though was one of the better ones, as did many others later on.

As for the fans in the ground, I thought we were excellent and kept it going through most of the game although watching it back on TV this morning I amazed at how loud the home fans were, it didnt seem like it on the night. We sang for most of our players on the night particularly in the second half but as has already been posted we need to drop this ferguson moyes song, it is an embarassment. Kompany and Negredo songs are excellent additions to the repetoire and good for the whole stadium as their is no swearing and lots of clapping but best for me no reference to the rags.

Good job blues, hope the heads aren't too sore this morning for those who stayed over.

And we won. Quality trip.

Cracking night out last night, drinking in Plzens version of Mary Ds. Their fans where top and we were drinking with Plzens goalkeeper, he was getting smashed. Top trip.

The brewery was shite though.

thaaanks! just can't wait to Munich to meet fans again, as I'm probably the only one supporter in Czech Rep.

First Half we started like a this years and last years prem games. We tried to dictate a slow pace with one or two touches more than we needed to. Plzen came out of the blocks flying and hassled us. Under that pressure, we made mistakes and allowed them more chances than they should of got. They grew in confidence and continued that high pressure and harrasing. Komps slip on his back pass to Jo was an example of how we could of possibly conceded a silly goal. Yaya was picking the ball up too many times off the defenders. This gave Plzen time to press a high line.
Second half notable difference was that Ferndy was feeding Yaya and Nasri and these two moved the ball around quicker with less touches and the movement of the front 3 pulled the Plezen defence all over leaving gaps for Nasri to get into. Coupled with individual brilliance in all 3 goals, put the end to the hosts ability to venture far into our half. Plzen were plucky, and tried to take the game to City, but once we matched them for tempo, there was only going to be one outcome.

Going forward, we cannot afford to start games like this any longer. At the beginning of our title wining season, we had many teams beaten by half time because we blasted them early on. I didn't see any of that last year, and we have started the same this year. We need to start with No mercy. Lets not rely on our ability to score late goals. Get the games won as soon as possible.

Lets get to 2-0 up by half time on Sunday, otherwise we may just find we may be 2-0 down ourselves.

Nervous first half, sublime second half display
