Policing in America

The George Floyd one was all encompassing enough, just give it a name update if needed.
Maybe this thread is good if it means we can blame the American police for racist murders perpetrated by the American police and leave the Met, Churchill and some old statue in Bristol out of it?

Weird Country, gun culture, the right to bear arms, not surprising the old bill over there are loons.

I do think the right to bear arms as it was meant to apply back in the days when the constitution was written has no place in the modern world but it has been hijacked for political reasons plus avid followers of Westerns and Rambo movies enjoy the symbolism that gun ownership provides. Its interesting that there are gun laws in other countries that are far more relaxed than here and near to what America has yet its not carnage on their streets.
As for the Police I just think its wrong uns who attract wrong uns and recruit wrong uns

who gives a fuck, it's america ffs
People who try to create a correlation between policing over there and here generally. Wont be long before this thread is gradually steered in that direction even though there is nothing similar about it at all. They have so many tiers of local, state and agency law enforcement over there its daft

Found the following on training to become a member of the police force:

There are around 18,000 police agencies in the US, but with no national standards on training, procedures and timescales vary across the country.
On average, US officers spend around 21 weeks training before they are qualified to go on patrol.
That is far less than in most other developed countries, according to a report by the Institute for Criminal Justice Training Reform (ICJTR).

Do you know I spotted this a couple of days back and skipped past it as I thought it was about the old man they pushed over and that PD went to resign cos one of their own had been charged.

I think there's a belief that the biggest gang in the world are untouchable!

Maybe they are?!

They do think they are untouchable because of what is known as Qualified Immunity (which essentially means that individual officers cannot be indicted in a civil court (you can however sue the police department or local authority.

Policing in the USA is made much more complicated than in many other countries because of the widespread prevalence of gun ownership and thus of illegal guns.

My understanding is that police in the UK go unarmed but upon approval can obtain arms for encounters deemed too dangerous to go unarmed.

The trouble in the USA - is that virtually any encounter is too dangerous for police to go unarmed.

Thus, by mistake, many unnecessary police shootings will occur. Far more than in countries where police may carry out their duties unarmed for the most part.

Hardly a surprise that US cops are morons who don't know what paraplegic means when they insist on employing knuckleheads instead of people who know how to use their brain and engage people in conversation.

If just one of them (including the officer who is black) had realised that they corroborate the claims of disability by inspecting the car's control system then they could have just stopped this from happening. Although it doesn't like the assholes bothered to even listen to him.
