Policing in America

Whilst you rightly point out it is out of control, having just been shown the Tyre Nichols footage by my wife I really wouldn't use the term 'misconduct' to describe what I watched; imo to do so diminishes the gravity of this and other incidents. It is criminal behaviour of the most egregious nature.

This.

It’s murder and they have rightly been charged with such.

Everyone at that scene is culpable, even the medical crew who stood and watched him die.

Charge them all.

Agreed, if they end up pleading to a lesser charge than what the initial evidence suggests this is i.e. 2nd degree murder, it will send an awful message.

Two issues seem to conflate in this thread over and over;

1) Police misconduct in the USA and;
2) Violent, overreaction by protesters.

Both 1 and 2 are out of control. Criminal punks looking for a fun day of violence or an opportunity to rip off businesses under cover of a riot are a big part of 2.
“Overreaction”.

Yeh, let’s not “overreact” to the police beating a man to death, or to the daily murders of civilians by American police, most of whom are never brought to justice.

I don't understand how you can punch someone defenceless like that over and over, 5 minutes ago you didn't even know them, how have you become so aggressive and full of hate to then beat a man to death. RIP Tyre you deserved better.
Yes, to be so devoid of any feeling towards another person's suffering is beyond belief. It's barbaric.

Very sad however I fail to see the reason it's a headline news story here! Is the media trying to create a George Floyd II? God knows we have our own issues with the police without worrying about other countries.

Yes, let’s never report on anything that happens outside of our shores.

Ukraine war, Israel synagogue shooting, Syrian civil war… let’s not mention them or discuss them because we have our own problems here and who knows what might happen if people read about what’s happening around the world.

They also need to charge the officers who arrived as backup. You can see in the video that 2 of the back up officers carrying torches shine it on the pole camera, realise everything has been recorded and the body cam footage where they start having discussions about saying he reached for the gun, was on drugs, conspiring to cover it up comes after that.

They’ve arrested 5, but it should be 7–9.

Apparently the paramedics have been suspended. I don’t think they’ll get charged with anything but I suppose that depends on what they said/did afterwards.

What a close-minded, frankly sorry standpoint. An innocent, unarmed man is beaten to death by law enforcement, in a supposedly progressive, democratic Western country, but let's just turn a blind eye because it didn't happen here? This was always going to be headline news in any place that isn't North Korea or Russia. That not one of those officers intervened and stopped the savagery is the story, it shows the disease within US law enforcement is yet to be cut out; it's endemic and warrants the attention it has garnered.

And it may have escaped your attention, but we are also reporting on our policing issues. It's been plastered over the news for weeks.

Not saying that at all. Obviously world events should be reported. I just think that events in America seem to receive a disproportionate amount of coverage over here. I very much doubt if something like that happened over here it would be the leading story on the national news in America.

He didnt say never report on it. He said "fail to see the reason it's a headline news story"

You took what he said, turned it into something uglier, then attacked him for that. You do that a lot, its shite tbh.

Oops, maybe you were being sarcastic. Soz if so.
