Policing in America

Two issues seem to conflate in this thread over and over;

1) Police misconduct in the USA and;
2) Violent, overreaction by protesters.

Both 1 and 2 are out of control. Criminal punks looking for a fun day of violence or an opportunity to rip off businesses under cover of a riot are a big part of 2.
Isn't 2 a consequence of 1? Violence is ugly, I agree with you, but when a nations law enforcement continue to flagrantly breach their responsibility, with disproportionate and oftentimes racially aggravated acts, you're lighting a powder keg under a citizenry that already feel aggrieved and disenfranchised.

I just watched some of the body cam footage of the beating of Tyre Nicholls. I won't post it because its barbaric - if anyone tries to justify that as "policing" then they are just wrong. Given that even the Chief of Police thinks that there was no clear justification for the alleged traffic stop the outcome just beggars belief

Just watched that video on SKY, unfucking believable, fist bumping after they beat him basically to death, can you imagine if that had been 5 white cops, the USA would be on fire now. Those twats need locking up for life and put them in Gen Pop see how long they last. The militarisation of the police in America was highlighted in the Hip Hop documentary on BBC last week, all to make people money, unreal. Heard on the radio they are trying to get a law introduced so that if a cop sees another cop stepping out of line if they don’t intervene then they are just as guilty! Think they also need to look at recruitment as many ex forces go in and with PTSD and the training they have it can be a reciepe for disaster.

We don't have a police force as much as an an extension of the armed forces with immunity and authority to do pretty much whatever they want

Just discussing the horrific footage with the wife and said the exact same thing.

Sadly it seems like you have an armed militia almost in America who think they can do whatever the fuck they like against people they are supposed to protect and serve.

Whilst you rightly point out it is out of control, having just been shown the Tyre Nichols footage by my wife I really wouldn't use the term 'misconduct' to describe what I watched; imo to do so diminishes the gravity of this and other incidents. It is criminal behaviour of the most egregious nature.
