Political relations between UK-EU

The reality here is that the seafood industry needs to back in the SM/CU which is where we effectively were in December. what has changed is the Tory brexit plan has been implemented and it contains the kind of provisions that Toryies denied it would for years, and unlike our BS tory government the EU nations are taking it seriously and are actually implementing what BJ negotiated and signed up to. Its destroying businesses as many people predicted. Seafood is very immediate but some types of farming / manufacturing will not be far behind.

Yeah, fishing industry needs SM/CU to survive. It won’t get it. The industry is fucked. But then the industry did say this in 2016

Bertie Armstrong, chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, said that leaving the EU would give fleets “the ability to recover proper, sustainable, rational stewardship through our own exclusive economic zone for fisheries”, comparing the situation with Norway and Iceland, which share many key North Sea fishing grounds and are not members of the EU, though they are in the European Economic Area (EEA).‘

Brexit would be fine for pretty much everyone if the UK had then done the bit in bold. They didn‘t. The industry is fucked.

It’s a bit like the DUP, keen as mustard on Brexit, but no understanding of trade, the EU, the EEA or reality.

It's the lack of unicorn revealing itself. Turns out you cant leave the SM and CU and still retain all the benefits. Something has to give.

Farming won’t be far behind, but many sectors will follow. The hospitality sector will probably see the worst effects masked this summer as it suffers with covid restrictions, however it too will eventually suffer too.

Reuters: PM: £23m fund for fishing industry.

That will keep it afloat for a couple of weeks...nothing says ‘Brexit will be great!’, then bunging an industry cash to keep it afloat.

Why would that be a surprise to anyone?

“It’s a great deal, the best, there are no barriers to trade with our nearest and biggest market, Britain can now look forward and prosper mightily!”

Two weeks in: “Here’s £23m to keep your industry afloat. Anyone else? Okay, form an orderly queue, plenty of Govt dosh for everyone.”
