Political relations between UK-EU

“It’s a great deal, the best, there are no barriers to trade with our nearest and biggest market, Britain can now look forward and prosper mightily!”

Two weeks in: “Here’s £23m to keep your industry afloat. Anyone else? Okay, form an orderly queue, plenty of Govt dosh for everyone.”

This is where BJ goes under. Throwing cash at the problem to make it go away is absolutley his answer to this and the many other similar issues that will come along. But the tory party wont have it - a significant number will want fiscal restraint and will want to let these businesses go to the wall. Boris gone in 3 months anyone?

Will be nice when someone posts a positive experience they’ve had as a result of our new rules and regs.
Just needs patience.

Someone starting a healthy diet plan can come out in spots, get headaches, feel a bit dizzy until their body adjusts. My Grandad smoked for 62 years, quit, came out in rashes and his lungs were coughing up a load of shit for a while and got a few chest infections, he wondered if he’s done the right thing. Then that all stopped and now says he feels ten years younger.

Becsuse of how shit the Tories are, we’re going to go through a fair bit of shit until adjustments are made, everything is ironed out, and we see the bigger picture. If only there’d been credible parties or credible MPs on the left or centre or even the right to vote for to lead us through all this instead of this bunch of Charlatans.

Some businesses might well go through some bad times, some might go under, but that exact thing was happening here and in other parts of the EU while we were (and they still are) in the EU. Businesses in Italy go under all the time, they’ve had five Recessions in two decades. Nothing the EU does seems to do much for Italy’s economy; and they aren’t the only ones, and aren’t in the worst state.

I’d be thinking of giving it a bit longer than 18 days after the agreement to see who’s had any positive experiences.

Which is reasonable on the face of it but little consolation to those whose businesses go under directly as a result of Brexit and wouldn’t have done otherwise

This is going to end well...

‘Boris Johnson blames seafood exporters ‘not filling in the right forms’ for post-Brexit sales crash’ @Independent

To be fair thats all he's got. None of them will have read and understood the agreement and its impacts and doubtless think 2 minutes notice of its implementation should have been plenty of time for exporters to get their acts together - and they just piss off another load of Tory voters coz he doesn't give a shit

Barriers will get easier as businesses get used to them and find how they work, but there will still be barriers that weren’t there before, that make it harder less reliable and more expensive to trade with the eu, and to convince countries in the eu they are better getting around barriers and paying the extra to buy of the UK when they can buy elsewhere with no barrier at all.
That won’t change, and for what benefit?

A small business exporting stuff under £100 to EU customers is either going to have to absorb £15-£20 for each transaction or pass it on to the customer. Either way is going to be a struggle.

No, it needs people to understand that when you put up trade barriers you get delays, paperwork and extra costs. The barriers don‘t disappear over time, you just learn to put up with the delay, fill in the mountain of new paperwork and pay the extra costs. And for produce that is time sensitive, ie fish, you go out of business. The same is true of transit and supply hubs which are going to reconfigure to exclude the UK.

The one Brexit positive is Gibraltar absorbing itself into the EU economic zone and the Schengen area and removing the physical border between itself and Spain. This is good news for its people and economy.

We have done the opposite. This is what reintroducing the trade barriers that we abolished a quarter of a century ago looks like.

Nice to know that I am still able to live rent free.....

Still not going to add you to a WhatsApp group though - or send you pictures
Gutted.
I could have been in that group that all think you're a bellend and don't reply to your little surveys.

You win the post of the day award

I like to think that there is at least one balanced and well thought through post
each day

I am sadly very often disappointed.....
