I haven't seen the AZ-UK contract so this is to some extent speculation but from what I can gather from all the various reports they ae committed to delivering 30 million doses by September. That means they can reduce the deliveries from 2 million per week and till meet their obligations. So 6.2 would not apply as long as they can still deliver to the UK in the end.

It is amusing how easily people in the UK have been duped by this non-story. It's funny too, how all the Billy big bollocks are back. Have you forgotten when France shut down Calais for two days at New Year?

AZ fell well behind with manufacturing issues, but they got them resolved for the time the MHRA approved the vaccine.

And I get that. They’re a big trading bloc, they throw their weight like any other big trading bloc and can be cunts with it.

They won’t block exports even with this move though. Pfizer are delivering to all equally (or short falling all equally) and the AZ vaccine is being made here for our consumption anyway (as per the last 50 pages!).

The EU are just playing the UK at their own game. I doubt it was multinational giant AZ who came up with the idea that vaccine produced in one country should primarily go to that country. I don't think it was the AZ negotiators that sat at the table and said "How about this for an idea..."

Maybe if the UK changed their stance a little and said "vaccine produced in the UK should primarily be used in the UK and the 70 other countries that the UK has spread a more aggressive, more deadly variant to because of our failed Covid policy" everyone might reach an agreement.

One hates to point out the obvious, but if we aren’t going to send vaccines made here to Europe, I’m not sure why we would expect Europe to send vaccines made there to us.

It kind of cuts both ways.

we have a contract in place for the supply from the UK factory until our order is fulfilled. EU doesn’t have the same with the vaccine made there.

The EU paid AZ just like the U.K. and the US did. For them, the U.K. was including in the list of the sites used for manufacture of the vaccination.

Whether AZ used EU money or U.K. money for the U.K. site is a question for them, to all intensive purposes the EU paid for its use though.

Bear in mind AZ raised 8.5 billion in investment, I doubt much of the government money from anyone was used tbh.

I think people need to stop seeing U.K. sites as U.K. owned. If the EU had done that, we’d have been royally fucked regardless of our procurement strategy.
