Political relations between UK-EU

It's nothing to do with disagreements over anything, it's about openly expressing a wish that this country is damaged.
You may not remember in fairness, but said it was.

The country is being damaged. You only have to look at the deranged antics of a PM who asked for a customs border in the Irish Sea and hailed it as a triumph when he got one. Now, during a G7 summit he is throwing a wobbly because other countries are pointing out there is a customs border in the Irish Sea.

I mean it is funny, but does make us look like arseholes.

Nothing odd about what you said mate, it's one of the reasons hardly anyone comes on here, when someone wishes harm on us, it tends to disgust folk a tad. And this sickening twist on the Scottish situation is laughable, you love the SNP because they hate the Tories, I and many others are now sick to the back teeth of England hating Nationalists holding sway, but anyone of this ilk
is fine by you.
Ahh the good old SNP. The party that openly supported a genocidal maniac when he was killing millions of Jews as they believed he would also rid them of their English benefactors.

sorry, wrong thread !

Is there a historical irrelevance thread? It will be full of 1930s Tory antisemitic fascists.

Trade War with the EU will get the Gammons heart pumping with pride of single handily beating them in 1945 etc...

Not "us". Just our lying perfidious PM and his obsequious followers.

I can’t stand Macron but cannot fight him on this. We made a deal that allowed the EU to block trade to our own country and they’ve held us to it. It doesn’t matter what the cabinet say about being pragmatic and them understanding our situation, it’s about the contract.

Did we believe we could hold the officious EU to ransom once we’d signed our sovereignty away, I don’t know, but surely we understood that the behaviour during Brexit had not only pissed off the member states, but near enough every person in it.

We have many friends in Europe and many of them were appalled at our behaviour, to the point where a few had a go at me personally. Not in a nasty way but in a disappointed, upset kind of way.

It’s going to get a lot worse. The G7 meet up has soured relations even further, in part because I don’t think Johnson can handle people who don’t buy his shtick. As with Trump, there is zero respect for Johnson from any of the other G7 leaders.

As relations deteriorates and Johnson hypes up the tension in NI, the EU is going to run everything through the legal processes in the various agreements recently signed with them. The ultimate end point is in effect a trade war with Europe and if Biden sides with the EU/Ireland well...you get the drift.

There are a lot of off ramps before we get anywhere near anything that serious, but the hope (arf) that we would have better relations with Europe outside of the EU is pretty much dead.

certainly as long as this load of shysters are in charge there will only be a worsening of relations with the EU and the wider world.

Agreed.

The EU has a well earned reputation as been an absolute stickler for the rules. The idea that they are enforcing everything in the treaty out of spite is madness and ignores decades worth of form from them.

Yes, totally get it, mate. It’s like when the Channel Islands were having problems with the fishing issue with the French blocking the harbour. What many didn’t see was that it was the EU holding our feet to the coals, not rushing to authorise the excessive paperwork that was needed therefore not allowing the Channel Islands to offload their catch in Europe, of course, who we sell to.

Again, it was our arrogance that caused the problem and it is down to us to change the situation, not try to force the EU to bend to our will but negotiate a deal that suits each and every party.

Don’t get me wrong, mate, I do think a lot of it is out of spite but this is what we signed up to and that is the way they get their own back.

There will come a time when the EU will rapaciously come after British buisiness, sure some has moved already. But this hasn't truly started yet and already the UK looks awful. If you sign a deal stick to it, otherwise your showing the world your word is no good.

I think it was 12 or 12.5% of BT that was snapped up by a French telecoms magnate last week and thanks to the Tory Govt re-instigating the status of asset holding companies he can take 12% of BT profits tax free...........or thats what I read anyway. British businesses are now fair game

That's the problem. We sign a hurriedly agreed WA to get brexit done, a crap deal in many ways, throw Northern Ireland under the bus in the process, then go bleating to the world 'It's so unfair'.

It's time we woke up and understood we have obligations under international law, laws we were at the vanguard of creating when we were members of the EU.

That said, the ERG will be happy as Larry we are pissing the EU off so much, the WA may not be ratified, as Macron has alluded to. It's what the ERG have wanted all along. The power behind the throne wants a no deal exit, and it's still a possibility.

The EU have been bending over backwards to help us, but all we do is throw shit in their faces.

Perfidious Albion, a country not to be trusted, and so it continues.

A Prime Minister that can't understand how to comb his hair, a lifetime of earning a living by writing lies and bullshit, is now our glorious leader, and he can't be arsed honouring the internationally binding treaties he's signed.

Yes, let that sink in for a minute. A discredited journalist that lost his job because the bullshit he wrote was too much for his colleagues is now running the country.
