Political relations between UK-EU

Maybe Scotland should split.

I don't mean from the UK, I mean in half, with the pro-EU, anti-UK western Scotland areas leaving and the more pro-UK eastern Scotland areas remaining with the UK. Split Scotland in two and allow one side to leave and the other to stay! Everyone's happy then!
Just like everyone was happy when you split Ireland?
;-)

I come in here every so often as it’s one of the few politics threads that moves often.

I don’t know why I bother I could predict what would be happening every time before I do.

Genuinely think the thread needs binning now but I’ll leave that up to the powers that be.

Other than the EU vaccine debacle, which could have gone in other threads to be fair, it’s ran its course imo.

It shouldn’t have, the next few weeks and months are going to be very interesting.

The problem is the debate is still circling back to 2016 over and over again. As it’s then gets stuck in the remain vs leave camps, people entrench themselves back into those positions. As a consequence, you’ve got examples like some on the remain side justifying things like the vaccine debacle they shouldn’t and some on the leave side ignoring any warning signs on trade or the NI situation despite them not wanting to leave the single market in the first place.

I said the other day, make the terms remain and leave thread bans. It would be a start at least!

Johnson could be tearing up the NI protocol...

Similar article from two sources, for those of a delicate nature.

Doubt it. Unless we intend joining the EU Single Market and Customs Union, in which case I’m all for it.

We have the following options.

1. An Irish sea border.
2. An Irish land border.
3. Join the EU Single Market and CU (maybe just the SM at a pinch).

This was true four years ago and remains true today. We had to pick one of these options. We chose option 1, then put it into a treaty, ratified that treaty and had an election with it in the manifesto.

Learn to love the UK internal customs border in the Irish Sea. It’s Johnson’s singular achievement, the separation of our Union.

PS. Johnson talks tough, then folds. See the WA, the Brexit Deal and ask anyone working in the fishing industry.

The comment below is from a Brexit MEP who owns a Salmon Curing business and it’s weird.

Pure protectionism. How is it on 31/12 our fish is ok to eat yet on 1/1 it is unfit? How is it that the EU fishermen are desperate to fish our 'uncertified' waters. This mad bureaucracy is why the EU economy is dying.

We need to lead the world in deregulating & FREE TRADE.‘ @LanceForeman

We had frictionless trade with the EU, and now we don’t because we voted not to have it, so now he’s complaining and I’m like how do people not get this?

Also, how can you lead the world in free trade when you have just rejected free trade and put up trade barriers?

How can you walk around with conflicting ideas in your head and still function?

Interesting idea but what other terms could we use instead?
