From that, I really have no idea what your firm makes or what you sell and who is increasing capacity and what they are printing, and who they're selling to.I'm not sure what point you are trying to make but let me explain how importing goods from the EU works. I am the sole UK employee of a large German specialty chemicals company supplying into the UK printing industry. All the products I sell are made in Germany so now following Brexit when they arrive in the UK they can't be delivered to my customers until they have been cleared on the Customs system. This means that UK customs knows exactly what has been imported. So if EU bottled water was prohibited for instance then it would never be cleared.
My sales so far this year are 25% ahead of plan as a lot of packaging that was being produced outside the UK is being brought back as the end customer (supermarkets, brand owners etc) want shorter supply chains. My biggest customer (Austrian owned) is moving to a site three times bigger than the current one as they need to increase capacity. All my packaging customers are really busy and most are ordering new printing presses to cater for the increased demand. There will be winners and losers and it will take a year or two to see exactly which industries do better and which do worse.

So he's importing and selling more ink because UK firms are making (or buying) packaging here rather than import it, and printing on it themselves? What happens to his job when they decide to source ink from UK manufacturers?Printing ink?

It’s finally good to see at least one industry doing well as a result of Brexit. Let’s hope there’s a few more to make up for those that are struggling. You weren't supposed to. I'm not going to explain our huge product range and the various applications they are used for.
Suffice to say that my German employers are very happy with the UK business and I'm happy to see my UK customers doing really well post Brexit.
Win/win
