Political relations between UK-EU

when you've been suckered into one cause you may have an underlying susceptibility or belief in and fed a load of propaganda and manipulated narrative about it but it strengthens and re-inforces your view, and you feel part of a cause at the same time, then you're much more likely to fall prey to similar situations particularly if they're within the same social circles. It's the same with the left wing university types who may start with a passionate belief to help the world and find for equality and climate change and then get roped into a bunch of unsavoury ideologies and viewpoints. It's just social media grooming on either side.
This is so true.

These people tend to be on the fringes and get sucked into taking a particular approach to everything.

It is a real problem with politics at the moment, they can’t look at something objectively and use their own brain.

Another problem is people who are objective, often get lumped in with that stereotype for merely agreeing with one specific topic with those kinds of people.

Foster of the FT delving into how some industries are faring 7 days in, short answer is, not great. Food and drink we know about, but the issue of UK as a hub applies to other industries.

‘As one EU official puts it: “You can’t expect the UK to remain the food import hub for the EU. It’s not sustainable, and makes no sense in the mid-to-longer run." And that applies to financial services, clothing, retail goods....a bureaucratic curtain has descended.’

Some examples in tweets, this is one of them.

The thread is long, but the conclusion is below.

The net result is that UK workers shift into lower paid, less productive jobs over time and the UK will end up poorer relative to its EU peer-economies. That may even happen without anyone noticing - we don't live the counterfactual.’

Press release from Seafoods Scotland.

It’s all very well you posting what appear to be actual things about the negative short term impacts of Brexit on actual people but no one is going to take them seriously unless you post your predicted line up in the Birmingham match thread

And anyway, those warehouse staff who appear to have been laid off and those inconvenienced Scottish fishermen should be looking to the new opportunities Brexit gives them

I've found a weird correlation which I'm struggling to understand. I run quite a big Facebook group and arguments keep breaking out between members about the vaccine and its administration. Probably like in real life, a significant minority are adamant that they will not take the vaccine. However, there hasn't been a single exception to this and I'm not sure why: when I click on their profiles every single one of the anti-vaccine people have a timeline full of pro-Brexit and anti-EU messages. Quite a few are pro-Trump and/or pro-Johnson, but the only issue that unites them all is Brexit. Does anyone have an idea why this is? The two things are totally unrelated.
Being Pro-Brexit has taken a fair few people down various RW rabbit holes. A good number of the people you would most associate with being Pro-Brexit happen to be on the right of politics and a person who is Pro-Brexit could quite conceivably have looked for evidence to back up their reasoning from various websites that unbeknown to them lead them down the rabbit holes. They become part of the Pro-Brexit team. Some of the leaders of the Pro-Brexit team know this and it gives them a captive audience to spread further propaganda. A person who starts out thinking Pro-Brexit is a reasonable political position is also subjected to what the Pro-Brexit leaders believe in, be it climate change denial, anti-vax, QAnon, etc They are also fed a diet of propaganda stating that being Pro-Brexit makes them a Patriot so they look to identify with other Patriots, that leads them to the MAGA stuff and the American Patriots. Hence on twitter you see a proliferation of flags . Human beings like to be part of a collective identity, me and you do it with City for example. That is part of our collective identity and as a result we will tend to see all things from very much a Blue perspective.

It is what James O'Brien called quite cleverly the footballification of politics, you have your team and you support your team, whatever that team does or stands for. This is not just a Pro-Brexit phenomenon, Pro-remain also have their team and they tend to stick together on the same issues as well.

Therefore in the last GE the red wall which had voted solidly Labour for generations got behind team Pro-Brexit, not wholly of course but there is a rise in RW standpoints in various towns that voted for Brexit. Take Burnley for instance, think of the racism aimed at Raheem and then think where that has come from. It is from one of the rabbit holes that believing Pro-Brexit is the correct action to take. Pro-Remain are more likely to back BLM as that is there teams side.

In reality what it means is that the old two party system of left and right, Labour and Conservative became redundant and the nation split almost 50/50 along Brexit lines, then took their sides other opinions as their own.

Of course this doesn't apply to everyone by any means, and some people may cherry pick views from their side that make sense to them and make them feel part of their collective. I have a good mate who was a long time Labour supporter who went down the rabbit holes and convinced as he was the Pro-Brexit was correct started watching video's on you tube that supported this view. The algorithms that Social Media use though shows you like minded material and before long it is quite easy to go from watching Pro-Brexit videos produced by say Daniel Hannan to his other stuff where he advocates Libertarianism and then become convinced the two are connected and should be supported. From there it can lead to anywhere on the RW scale, i know I have tried it to see what happens and pretty soon you can find yourself in some pretty dark places. Basically its a kind of grooming. I have my thoughts why this has happened but you didn't ask for them so i will keep them to myself, but that is my explanation as to why you are getting the results you are.

The party in 2019 got a bit of blue in there:

Johnson appears on this one (not sure why you only think it is 'likely' that Johnson would be right of centre though - edit - I don't know what the red dot is meant to be, but that looks like Johnson in the top right)
For the crack - I just took this test to see where I fall - I am needing to take stock as I am not sure how I feel about the result.

Good post Rasc. In summary then, it’s because all anti-vaccers are idiots and most idiots are pro-Brexit.
