Political relations between UK-EU

If you consider the traditional areas of Labour support being the industrial heartlands of the past, like Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds, then their support wasn't for leave, but remain.

It was the rural constituencies that voted leave. It's not the case for every large northern town, but analysis of the vote clearly shows it wasn't northern towns and cities that decided the result but rural areas.

Russian financed advertisements on social media were heavily backed in the two weeks leading up to the referendum, and before that started the remain campaign was comfortably leading. The Leave vote won by a little over 634,000 votes, it was the first time in the campaign leave were in front, and since the vote, the choice to remain has consistently been higher than leave.

The government have suppressed the report into that Russian backed influence on the result.
Whilst true, those areas then decided that their victory had been stolen from them and then voted in the most inept government as a result.

That then exacerbated the short term shit sandwich of Brexit that has been masked by COVID to a large degree.

I absolutely agree in parts - I have always said that my main annoyance with Blairs Labour years - forget the wars for now - is that the sink estates and shitty places they inherited were virtually unchanged when they left office. Wasted opportunity that they lived to really regret.

However I speak to family in friends in old solid Labour seats in Manchester and they still bark up the trees of Corbyn.. Labour...Unions...Brexit...Forriners...Boris et al doing his best...EU punishing us...I think it will take a generation or two to understand and compare what has happened before they understand why they live in over priced hovels and pay inflated rents to wealthy landlords etc
Absolutely. The cap doffing by the working class to the local landlords is unreal. How did Lord Snooty get where he is today ? Not by hard work, just inherited privilege thanks to land being given to them centuries ago via renclosure acts etc ! Sadly the media perpetuates the system combined with whipping up hatred of forriners and the local oiks accept it all !

According to the Times looks like Frosty's now abandoning uk demands for the role of the ECJ to be dropped from the NI protocol.
Sovereignty?
What sovereignty?

Yeah, as predictable as it is dull. Same with fishing licenses and pretty much everything else. If a country puts itself in a position where it has little leverage, then unsurprisingly it will win very few battles.

Do you not consider Sunderland Wigan Tameside Oldham Bolton St Helens and dozens of other Labour areas as traditional Labour areas, inner city areas may have voted remain but the vote was lost in major Labour areas had they voted remain then we would have despite the rural vote.First time I've heard the Russians won it so must have been well suppressed.
These are places with a significantly higher proportion of uneducated people.

Well common market at the time of entry and time of conformation vote,as a nation we were never convinced or entirely committed and now for better or worse we're no longer members it's time to move on because I doubt very much we're going back.
Yet the vote in 1975 returned a two thirds majority to stay in. I remember the day - I had my car nicked!

In what way's it gone to crap, I still think this a better place to live than most .Germany's inflation rate is identical to ours pressures beyond any nations control at the moment.
Yeah, that rise in foodbanks is certainly an advert for not being crap.

That's our sovereign choice to use the ECJ. It always was.

Yet again having to point out that in no more than a handful of constituencies did a majority of Labour voters vote to Leave.
