Just read the third volume of Chris Mullin's diary, Decline & Fall. Mullin was the independently-minded, leftish-leaning MP for the Sunderland South constituency and was the journalist who took up the case of the Birmingham Six.

His contempt for the packaged, "on-message" politics of both New Labour & Cameron's Conservatives is quite clear and deliciously expressed. Well worth a read but at the same time profoundly depressing when one reads about the shallowness of the people (in all parties) running the country, who are more interested in scoring points off each other than doing things for the ordinary people who elect them.
Have you read 'a view from the foothills'? If so how does decline and fall compare?
I haven't yet but will be doing. Tried to read Alistair Cambell's first volume but it was utter shite. So badly written.

Come on somebody start me off I'm getting bored with the BBC site and people agreeing with me. So come on lets have it who thinks that the coalition will cave in once this boundries nonsense falls on its *rse. How long before Cameron and his tory toff's are kicked back into the long political grass the long term.

The sooner the better, from day one his government has been an absolute shambles. The u-turn after u-turn just shows the ineptitude of the government, compounded with the dire economic policies which have caused a recession (bordering on depression) it can't get much worse. The sooner Labour are in office the better.

Here here

Okay cards on the table I can't wait to see this coalition crumble the smarmy Nick Clegg put firmly back in his box. Then the best to follow as a vote of no confidence with the two posh boys being humiliated in a general election.

Labour coming back into to there rightful place back into power with Milliband with the prime minister in waiting Ed Balls. This country needs another shake up like it did when the best prime minster this country has ever had Tony Blair style.

Well they had their faults but on the whole they did yes.

So tell me then, was the economy in a better state when Labour left compared to when they first come to power?

Long period of economic growth, NHS vastly improved, Education standards increased dramatically, hardly a shambles. The economic record caused by their destructive policies of this tory-led government alone should result in them losing power.

HAHA

Sure Labour caused the collapse of the financial system in 2008? Therefore the amateur inference your trying to make is poor since it is obviously going to be worse. However, when Labour left office we were experiencing economic growth and unemployment was falling.

They did though, so what actually is your point?

Go on then, how did they improve education?
Was it by introducing cover supervisors so children were being 'taught' by people with no teaching qualifications at all?
Or was it by refusing to scrap SATs even though the vast majority of teachers thought they were a bad idea?
Or was it their constant interfering and changing of policies?

Here is some 'evidence' they did a bad job - I am sure there is lots of evidence for them doing a good job too if looking at it from a positive viewpoint.

The Neo-liberal free market economics have failed, we need a new radical thinking.

Im a socialist if you havent noticed, but i also think socialist thinking has to evolve to todays challenges.

The last government, was hardly socialist, it did some good things and some bad as i think all of them do, it didnt cause a worldwide banking crisis, but it also didnt help to stop it and they will always suffer for that.

Thankfully the days of new labour are over, the days of the Miliband led Labour party are the future.

Where they are going at the moment im not sure, im not even confident they will follow the agenda of the left as the country has moved to the right on the whole as they try to counter the rise of UKIP and the BNP.

What is needed is new thinking, the coalition is a disaster, it has ruined the economy, it has increased unemployment, it is fucking up the NHS big time, its education policy is taking us back to the 50s,its destroying the welfare state and its transport policy is laughable.
