If it was a cunning conspiracy we could never get the explanation though? We will get bland PR stuff like everyone else

Absolutely correct 100%. I was a Police Officer for many years working in several departments including some very sensitive actions. I also owned a very successful global Private Investigation business and engaged in many an undercover operation, ranging from, amongst others, Fortune 500's to Government levels.

Only those who needed to know and could be trusted were informed of the operation, and strictest reporting, controlled. At any one time only three people knew, the client, the control official and the operative NOBODY ELSE. So it was on completion, job done no reason to talk about it no apologies needed so the operative was 1. Safe and 2. Could be used again. I for one congratulate those involved in this issue, in the quality of work, in exposing the culprits and their attempted money grab.

Were City complicit with the others, or the investigating operative? I'm sorry to say we'll never know and so should it be.

Our owner took over a once great club that hadn’t won anything for a generation and delivered the best ten years any City fan has ever experienced. We’ve gone from laughing stock, to a giant of world football. The management, the coach, the players, the staff, have all demonstrated their commitment and desire to make this club the best. This means I’ve grown to trust them, so I believe they did what they did with the best of intentions to continue the progression we’ve witnessed over the previous decade. I’m also aware that they will be privy to information that I’m not and they could never make public due to it’s commercial sensitivity. I’m sure the truth of what has gone on will come out eventually and when it does the situation will be a lot less black and white than it has been presented so far.

Seems Perez is suggesting that one English club was never really that keen, and also one Manchester club was only in it to start a media campaign to tear the whole thing apart.

I may have to review my voting selection.

Is there an option for ‘a combination of some/all of the above’?
I certainly think our motives might well have shifted during the whole process. Still not sure I buy the whole Machiavellian machinations theory, I think we were initially blindsided and panicked into a rash decision, though I suspect that realising the rare opportunities a withdrawal suddenly presented might have come into play later in the day
I agree with this, so I suppose I should have voted for “none of the above” but I think our “yes” was probably a rush/panic in case it somehow worked, and our withdrawal a case of reading the room over 24-36 hours.

However, because I think a rational businessperson in touch with fans should have known that it would never, ever work, I voted for “cock-up”, since I don’t think you need to use any hindsight to have predicted the fan reaction. In fact I’ve been surprised given how much harder all of COVID has been on the working-class average supporter (because COVID has hurt average people more whether they support a football club or not) that the reaction wasn’t even stronger than it was.

Thank God for that fucking idiot Perez, whose non-sensical interview resembling a wind tunnel constructed entirely out of giraffe-shit probably helped hasten the Super League’s inevitable demise.

Haha your final sentence conjures quite the image :)

Perez is claiming city caused the super to collapse because we were never interested and starting lies saying the domestic leagues were under threat. Trojan horse. Fantastic owners.

A US radio commentator I was listening to today had a brilliant way of putting it -- I'm paraphrasing -- "An arrogant bully like Perez, who used to being in power, and unchallenged, thinks he can simply speak and his words will make a thing so. Who asked Perez to 'Save football'? No one."
