I think its a mixture of 2 things.

1) a toxic fanbase. Imagine a battle like 2018/19 with Liverpool and how stressed everyone got on here. Now make it last 40 years. Thats Porto vs. Benfica and the fans, players and manager just seem insanely highly strung.

I mean how desperate to find an insult do you have to be to get angry over a Lisbon newspaper giving away a former Benfica players' shirt?

2) they are used to being the big dogs in Portugal, the giant club, and then they go into Europe and are a small fish and have to play like Burnley to get a point. That doesn't sit well with them.
