“Italy, Germany, France and the Netherlands have signed a deal with AstraZeneca for the pharmaceutical firm to supply European citizens with a coronavirus vaccine, Italy's health minister has said.
The contract is for 400 million doses of the potential vaccine, which is being developed with the University of Oxford in the UK. Its experimentation phase is expected to end this autumn.
Announcing the news in a Facebook post, Roberto Speranza added that the first batch of doses would be made available by the end of this year.“
"With today's deal comes a promising first step forward for Italy and Europe," he added. "A vaccine is the only solution to Covid-19."

Would like to think they’re investing as they think it genuinely has potential and are not simply hedging their bets. Will keep an eye out to see if they buy into other projects soon. The USA has been buying up huge chunks in many projects around the world, which will presumably allow Trump to claim Warp Speed to have been a success if one comes through. It’s difficult, however, to find information on the 5 main Chinese trials.
Reckon next month could be quite depressing when they announce their next sets of results, a bit like The Chair at the Grand National, with a number of promising riders falling all at once. Just hope that one or two get over clear.

I liked the post for the humour but it would be truly fucked up if that happened.
Given what’s happened so far this year, we’ll all be queued up, sleeves rolled up and waiting for the injection when they suddenly discover it shortens life expectancy by fifteen years...
I’ve just got a sneaky feeling the Chinese are going to get there first. All of our attention is on the predominantly Western vaccines, but they have 5 main ones and many others, too.

I think America has already ordered 400M doses of the Astra Zenica vaccine.
