Positive news about Corona Virus Updates

The Bank of England are saying that the economic recovery is beginning with consumer spending returning to pre lockdown levels. The economy will still shrinking by 9% this year and unemployment will rise so it’s still grim but at least there is some grounds for optimism.

It’s a long haul with the economy not expected to be fully back on its feet until late next year. There is a big opportunity for many people to holiday in the UK and buy British.

It’s why we need BBC

otherwise we end up with social media/YouTube analysts calling it all a hoax

Yep agreed. It’s a bit tangential, and not the reason why I posted the link, but there is a lot of BBC bashing on here, and when it comes to BBC football coverage I agree, but overall we 100% need the organisation to continue and thrive.

Yes, just listening to the radio this morning (bbc 5 live), there will be work, but maybe different types of jobs. ICT skills more, face to face retail less. Maybe it will accelerate high street changes which were already underway.

True mate, if the BBC sorted out their sports news they would regain much of their lost credibility IMHO. Also, at the start of the week I looked for the Rugby League show from the weekend on the iPlayer and I couldn’t find it. No doubt it would have been front of house if it was a programme about the “Class of 92”.

The full BBC interviews regarding Covid have been helpful so, for example, I recall the interview with the Cambridge lead researcher into the vaccine who laid out the timetable but also stated caveats they could delay or thwart the research. Other media outlets just reported that there would be a vaccine by September or October and edited out the risks to the research programme.

I also think that more people will forego luxuries to be able to work fewer days, where they / their families can afford to do so. Time will tell but more people have got into gardening and DIY etc and may want to continue to do so.

There's a whole generation of people who will be left behind in that instance, which will be a huge shame. My parents for example are still pretty shite with computers. Can imagine lots over 50 are.

Agree with that. And even thinking about my own family, those at the other end of the age spectrum at school, don’t get taught ICT lessons any more. They can do a more specialist Computer Science (coding) course, but not ICT any more. Seems crackers to me.

The number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in private households in England and Wales has levelled off in the past week, new government figures show.

Looking at the worldometer website, is there a reason to believe that global infection rates are beginning to plateau if not ever so slightly decline since the first time since the pandemic began? 7 day average of new worldwide infections seems to suggest so, next couple of weeks should tell us more.

Thought I would bump this as there appears to be so much more positive news on the virus these days
