Tony Pepper's condition deteriorated in hospital
A murder inquiry is under way in Blackpool after a man found seriously injured outside a pub died in hospital.
Tony Pepper, 45, was found with head and facial injuries outside the Devonshire Arms, on Devonshire Road, on Wednesday evening.
He was taken to the Blackpool Victoria Hospital, but his condition deteriorated and he died on Friday,
"We have been left devastated by what has happened to Tony," his family said in a statement.
Officers want to speak to a "young" man who left the pub at about 2200 GMT and ran down Claremont Road.
'Gentle person'
Detectives in the resort described what happened to Mr Pepper as a "very nasty" assault.
Before his death on Friday, his family released a statement which read: "He is a real character, a gentle person and is well loved and would never hurt anybody.
"We would urge anyone with any information whatsoever to come forward and tell police.
"We would not want anyone to go through the pain of what we are going through at this moment in time."
