This is exactly it! We were a top 6 side LAST season for the second half after De Jong, Bridge and most importantly Given arrived and people forget that.

No we weren't. We were the 7th best side in the second half of the season ;-)

Mine was a guess, you sound like you have some figures. Without having to check every club's return for the second half where can I find this info?

Me ;-)

The teams that had a better second half to the season than us are...

Rags
Liverpool
Chelsea
Arsenal
Everton
Spurs

Ok that's a fair point but I think we were close to Everton's performance.

I got it wrong actually. We were the 8th best team in the second half of the season. West Ham were better than us in the second half on goal diff. Anyway, because I'm a bit sad, here's the stats for the last 19 games for all teams...

1. Rags - 49
2. Liverpool - 44
3. Chelsea - 42
4. Arsenal - 40
5. Everton - 34
6. Spurs - 31
7. West Ham - 29
8. City - 29
9. Fulham - 27
10. Villa - 27
11. Stoke - 25
12. Blackburn - 24
13. Bolton - 18
14. Pompey - 18
15. West Brom - 17
16. Wigan - 17
17. Sunderland - 14
18. Newcastle - 12
19. Boro - 12
20. Hull - 8

looking at that Id say next season 6th with what we've got maybe 5th - with an eto maybe 4th. then we can get all the huuuuggee signings and challenge for the champ in 2010/11. Nice!

Spurs only got 2 points more in the second half??!! They were only on 2 points when Harry took over. Would have put my savings on them being higher up. I doff my hat to your fact finding! ;)

Given/(Someone Else)
Richards/Zaba......Onuoha/Kolo Toure......Kompany/Dunne......Bridge/Lescott
De Jong/Yaya Toure/Barry/Kompany
Ireland/Barry/SWP/Elano
Tevez/SWP.......Santa Cruz/Eto'o/Caicedo........Bellamy/Robinho

I don't see all the fuss with Joleon Lescott, yeah he scores goals but his job is to defend them so judge him on that only. I think he's clumsy and loses his concentration too easily, like Micah and Dunney. I still think we'll pay silly money and get him though.

I quite liked SWP last season on the days when he played from deep cos he did well running at defenses and it opened up gaps for runners up ahead too. If we sign the players the papers say we're gonna sign, i.e. the plethora of strikers, then we're once again gonna be over-run with frontmen so Hughes has to decide who stays and who goes. Would like to keep hold of Jo and Caicedo cos of the potential, possible loan moves for them two. Obviously Bellamy will not be going anywhere but looks like Sturridge will be off. Will be a shame for Evans to leave cos he hard worker but he just hasn't looked up to the Premiership in my opinion.

fyi guys lescott isn't a LB he's a centre back with a left foot who's been asked to play there before. Elano played RB, doesn't make it his best position.

If we sign 2 top CBs as expected neither kompany nor onouha will make it into the starting 11.
