Post match thread - City v Chelsea

Yes, mate. We all make mistakes but the lack of correlation between pre- and actual season performances is there to be seen year after year. Makes you wonder how long the flappiest flappers have been watching football.
I criticised our pre-season preparation but also said that the only games that matter are the ones where there are points or trophies at stake.

I've also long felt that there's an inverse correlation between preseason and regular season. The better we look in preseason, the worse the regular season seems to be and vice versa.

Yesterday was fantastic from start to finish and the players showed an almost insane desire to fight and win often missing last season. Every player was on form and when that happens in a game we take some stopping.I have no idea what it looked and sounded like on the tv but the singing and noise was brilliant in the stadium.I spoke to a lad on the new third tier on the bus back and he said it was almost all lads in there, just like the kippax at Maine Road.I was in the South stand lower and the atmosphere was 100% better than last season.Long may it continue!

Very interesting comments from Vinny about how we set traps all over the pitch.

That is exactly how it seemed, allowing Chelsea to play in certain areas of the pitch, and knowing what they would do when they got into those positions.

We're seeing it unfold with Sterling in the team. He's actually tucking in, rather than an outright wide man.

It's allowing Silva to move so freely and Sterling is absolutely crucial, simply because teams fear his pace.

In addition, it's also improving Kolarov, who knows he's got someone diligent enough to cover his attacking forays.

With KDB on the right, the options and movement is on Barcelona's level, outside of Messi being a freak of nature.

One thing I will say, I have no clue why we keep telling Joe to play that wide kick out to Sagna. Yes, Sagna won it every time, but it's just cheap gifting of possession because we have nobody around for the knockdown.

It's bizarre when you consider how careful and measured we are with the actual football.

Hart needs to be much more alive to rolling the ball out down the centre or sending Sterling away on a test of pace down the other side.

what a joyous day, no sleep whatsover, too pumped. Just love it when everyone is on board and wanting it. I still believe we gifted it away last year, the attitude, body language and transformation of a few players is something to behold. Well done everyone.
