Post Match Thread: City vs Southampton

More excellent man management by Manuel. The press were saying Willy looked nervous..MP was having none of it. Next thing...a great performance..3 great saves and let one go past him because he knew it would hit the bar (& drench all the press behind the goal when the water off the bar soaked them)..genius Willy.
Press behind the goal in the family stand???

Fucking hell, this is a short post match thread.

Where is everyone?

We won so the trolls are in hiding. Had Southampton somehow snatched an equalizer, we would be onto page 30 by now, and if they'd won, we'd be topping the half century.

I thought this was a much better performance today. Very high energy from the first whistle, reminiscent of how we started the Sevilla game. The game would have been dead and buried had the ref had a functioning pair of eyes or a conscience and given the penalty and red card. Southampton then got back in the game from a free kick which was never a foul and after an advantage that went on longer than their post goal celebration. Delph and DeBruyne were excellent and several others like Kolarov and Sterling made notable contributions. There were some jitters at the back, but with our makeshift CB pairing and Willie, that was to be expected.

A decent win this, a Southampton win would have taken them to within 3 points of us. Their first 'domestic' away defeat of the season, and have won at Stamford Bridge and drawn at Anfield.

That said, I thought it was pretty unconvincing in some ways, we started well and deserved our two goal lead, but then we lost our way, even before half time we had faded, let them back in the game, and I thought we were pretty average in the second half overall. Some notable performances, I thought both fullbacks had decent games, especially Sagna. Delph was very good until he tired second half, and Fernandhino, and him looked good together first half, though I'm not keen on Fernandhino as the shield, as we lose something as a team. Sterling started well enough, but also faded for me, and started giving the ball away far too easily. KdB was good, and key to the win, he's been better, and we need him and Silva together, but lets get Silva fit, he looked miles off today for me. Otamendi and Demichelis had moments of good and bad again, and how they waltzed through us a couple of times in the second half, should send alarm bells back to our defensive coach(es). Otamendi was trying to organise the offside, but the other three took no notice, again, if they can't play it, then don't play it. Yaya badly needs a break, he's not even making good decisions now, some of the time, he just looks fatigued to me.

Three points, and back top, so can't complain really, against a good side, but one who I thought were very disappointing today, I thought MP picked a decent set up, and the first 25 minutes showed that, but I'm still worried that we let them back into it so easily, when we should have been going for their throat at 2-0 up.

Another tricky league game next weekend, after a particularly tricky midweek game, it will be interesting to see the side selected on Tuesday, because a win next weekend is far more important.

Decent win against a a good team. Good performances from De Bruyne, Stering and Delph. Good to see Silva back

Not great from MDM and Sergio is not back to his best but I'm sure he will be soon.

It's becoming clearer after every game that Yaya is way past his best. If we can get money for him I'd sell in January.
