Not going to happen. Apparently a party needs, arithmetically 326 seats to avoid every other party ganging up on them. Politically its completely different. As Sinn Fein never turn up at Westminster and have 7 seats the actual target is 322 seats. The DUP (the NI Tories) have 12 seats. May like her or not doesn't have a problem.

Well it's not that straightforward. I can see DUP and Conservatives forming an alliance as they share many of the same views but the DUP have already said they dont want May about, which is never a good sign from the party you need on side, and when the knives are sharpening in the background as well.....

she may hold on, she may not, depends what weasling she can do behind the scenes.

Why would she go? OK, she lost some seats but she has given the SNP a bloody nose, still has enough seats to pass legislation and the Tories Don't have an obvious replacement. I personally don't like May but some of the comments on here are wishful thinking and not logical.

Hahahahaha.

What a goal that was by Jeremy.
Those kids in the north (and south) stand were cheering alot.

My cynical side thinks that Goalkeeper 'May' of let that goal in though as she didn't want to exit the field anyway.

It's the same with any alliance really.
No it's not.
There is the slight complication of how the Republicans will view this in Northern Ireland and whether this could have a destabilizing effect on the delicate political balance in the province.
Will we have a 'tail wagging the dog' situation whereby the DUP will ask for too much?
It is widely rumored that some liberal Tory MPs will not accept any deal with an Ulster party.

The media did everything in their power to humiliate & destroy Corbyn. Ridiculed daily.

Amazing how people seen through it.

Because most people aren't stupid. Old people might be able to be scared by newspaper headlines as that is their only source of news but everyone else has access to the internet and you keep telling people someone is evil they will look into it and make their own conclusions.

Someone made this point in the other thread -

The irony at the Tories branding Corbyn a terrorist sympathiser and here they are looking at getting in bed with a party for terrorists.

The whole thing has now got very complicated, a coalition or another election doesn't seem like clearing anything up

The DUP. That's led by the women at the centre of the energy scandal, isn't it?

Her own people are already calling for her head. She is a dead in the water, with no influence or purpose anymore.

I was never one of his biggest fans. But over the last 6 months he grew on me. I near enough swallowed what the Mail/Sun were churning out.

I think it would be suicide to keep her on after the disastrous campaign she ran. If a new election were to be required in the near future, I would expect the Tories to lose further ground with her at the helm.

You never know with politics though.

Couldn't have gone much better as far as I'm concerned.

1. Corbyn won't be PM
2. May got her comeuppance
3. Krankie failed to force the Scottish independence agenda
4. Farage was almost suicidal on TV this morning as there's a very good chance hard Brexit is dead

A bit of short term chaos is a small price to pay.

I think a cross party group will need to be set up quickly to front the Brexit negotiations.

Never say never. They've got a perfect excuse now, ie they need to be represented in Westminster to counter the DUP's disproportionate influence. Say the tories lose a few seats in by elections, Sinn Fein MPs could then be in a position to bring down the government and could justify that if they could argue that the tories had made too many concessions to the DUP. I could see them taking the oath, with fingers crossed, whilst making it clear that theyre only doing that because of the special circumstances surrounding the DUP.
Nah. Can't see it. Plus I can't see Tories lose by-elections if they oust May sharpish.

Of course she should and will resign, but I suspect she won't do it yet.

Labour are talking as if they have "won", which of course they haven't; polling a smaller share of the vote overall and winning less seats. They've done much better than expected of course, but have still not done as well as the conservatives.

So it would be entirely wrong to hand power to a party which less people voted for, and which has substantially less seats than your own. That's why I don't think May will step dowm just yet. But certainly her position in the medium term is untenable.

She ran the worst campaign in living memory, perhaps ever, and showed she is totally unsuited to political leadership, with a combination of shocking decision-making and terrible presentation. Nought out of 10.

However, she was basically offering the country a sludge brown carrot & kale smoothy, healthy and good for your teeth. Whilst Corbyn was driving around in his ice cream van offering free 99s. Unsurprisingly a public starved of goodies for the past 6 austere years, ran after the ice cream van.

When you consider this, i.e. the worst Tory campaign EVER, and Labours seemingly endless freebies, it's perhaps surprising Labour did not win. Moreover, had the Tories ran a better campaign, Labour would have obviously not done so well as they did. So the conclusion has to be that the Labour offering has to change, or they will continue to be a party of protest. Sufficient numbers of people are not persuaded by the current Labour leadership.

If we think she has a problem getting 3 or 4 more MPs to support the conservatives its nothing compared with the problem Corbyn would have trying to unify MPs from 5 disparate parties to muster over 50 MPs from them. Ain't going to happen.

This is complete bullshit, the DUP are not and have never been connected with terrorism.

In fact, the DUP are one of the few "tribal" parties that have always distanced themselves from paramilitaries/terrorism. I recommend reading up on the subject

May has a huge problem. The Tories less so.

you missed out the attempted character assasination the press attempted with Corbyn
