Post Match Thread - United (h)

I watched Dave closely yesterday, it was painful at times.

There was at least three occasions when De Gea had the freedom of going quick and passing straight into the centre.

It resulted in the second goal. Some people might only see the pivotal moments that lead directly to a goal?

I saw Silva standing essentially as a fucking striker without once being aware that McTominay was in acres and running right off the back of him.

Martial tucked right into midfield to stop Angelino joining up, allowing James to stay wide and rip up to shreds.

Angelino is not good enough for us but a huge liability for us is Sterling not getting back to help any of our left-backs, it's half-arsed and doesn't go with the runner or overlap.

When Laporte plays, he remedies a lot of this issue because he senses the danger and shifts across. In addition, teams are also wary of his excellent passing and ability to open up the other side of the pitch with his wand crossfield ball out to Bernardo or Mahrez.

Personally, I also don't think Kevin should ever be in the engine room, he doesn't have the fitness capacity our game puts on it.

He should play out wide, even if that means impacting Bernardo, Silva or Mahrez.

Kev must play, as must another set of legs to help Rodri, who I felt very sorry for yesterday.
Agree with much of that, particularly Raheem defensive contribution recently. I would add that from a defensive capacity Stones lacks intensity and is too passive allowing players (Rashford in particular) to run at him and allowing them too much space to make incisive passes. When he has the ball our tempo drops to walking pace. Too many touches, no pace on the ball. We have a lot to fix.
By the way, what the fuck is wrong with Bernie. His form has dropped off a cliff.

Complacency throughout the team , players relying on last seasons achievements in justifying a place at the club this season .

Stones gash
Fernandinho not a CB
Angelino gash
D.Silva :( gutting to see but he needs replacing with Foden
KDB tried to hard
B.Silva on the Right Wing? Doesn't work Mahrez should have started.
Jesus after a brilliant game Tuesday was shit.

What a shite day I'm so pissed off. Already lost 4 premier league games and I can see a few more coming. Defence has totally collapsed with Laporte & Zinchenko out the rags could have scored 4/5 it was that easy for them.

Worst part now is the prospect of the dippers winning the title at the Etihad in April :(
Apart from that everything else good yeah?

Try to stay strong, and keep all sharp objects locked up in a cupboard.

On planet earth people with a clue don't say: "he is fuckin clueless on what to do if plan A fails".

Your latest response implies that perhaps you do not fully appreciate the positional play approach Pep has (not that I can claim to) and, regardless of that, whatever went well or badly yesterday - Pep has demonstrated throughout his managerial career that he just a Plan A. His plans don't always work but more often that not, they do or he changes them and gets the result.

You have wasted much time and effort in communication with some right melons -;)

What.the.fuck.was.that!

Deserved defeat to a shitty stretford side. Wank and under-par performance. Even the customary cheating favouring the scum by that VAR hope-he-gets-an-anal-tumour-cûnt couldn't mask our dire shower.
And I'm a so-called happy clapper!

Hope those monkey chanting wankers are identified and banned for life.

Why aren’t we trying 3–5-2? 433 is fucked with our defence. Pep is having a brain fart this season. And if I was foden I’d be off. Now the league has completely gone its The perfect chance to build for next year and give valuable minutes to foden and Garcia but they’ll get fucking nowhere near the first team unless it’s a duffer in the cup.

Totally agree with you that the worry is that Foden will leave. The lad deserves playing time from the start of games.
Like many on here, I cannot understand why Pep continues to play Ferna out of position... So many of the opposition attacks would never have reached our dodgy defence if he was playing in his natural position.

Arsenal away next and then Leicester home.

Arsenal is so bad right now it would be a disgrace not to bring home the 3 points from Etihad. They will also play EL on Thursday we have more time to to relax until Sunday.

But Leicester is going to cause problems while will be very hard to break them down. If Pep wont have any idea how to defend against counters we are in for a shock maybe again.

FFS...that was my eldest lads second Derby...and he's seen us lose twice, both times with insipid performances. First game was when we lost 1-0 with Pellers, and we'd flown over from Canada just for the game. That was a long journey back.

I've told him not to worry, it will come and he'll appreciate it more when we win...but if any of you want to have a whip round to keep him away from the next derby, it will probably need to involve a fishing trip back to Oz.

Just sayin… ;-)

I can agree with all of that.

Pep is a genius we all agree on that also.

His philosophy of making the pitch as wide as possible works only when the players have the fitness and work levels to do it. At present it is not happening.

I would look at changing the roles of the wide men. Bernardo has the best work rate of any player I have seen, and i would like to see it more centrally, the same with Sterling , a more flexible role. We are still playing some incredible football, whatever you may read here, the issue is getting more players in a position closer to the goal. 4 or 5 players need to be in a dangerous position at the end of attacks to support the number 9.

Silva should be coming on for the last 20 mins, Kdb as you ascertain wider, with Bernardo inside. Bernado close to Rodri is my idea, picking up second balls, as he did against us playing for Monaco. Changing a system which has been so successful is not an easy decision. Foden could also add the energy.
I do think some of the criticism of our defence is wrong, for the reasons you outlined, the midfield legs, and I include Sterling, is not at the level we have been accustomed to.

The wide pitch philosophy has been dead since leroy got injured.

Sterling is normally 20 yards further infield than Sane would be on the left and bernardo/Mahrez 10-15 narrower than Sterling would be on the right.

Silva (I think it was Silva) really should not have shot from halfway after the incident. It stopped the play and put all the focus on VAR.

Look, it was a penalty, but the ref didn't give it. You need to use this VAR mess to your advantage, and decisions are very very rarely overturned during open play. Had the ball been passed around for a minute or so rather than being blasted out of play, I think there's a decent change the penalty isn't given.
Ah so it was our fault, thats where we have been going wrong, nice to be schooled by someone whose first post was backing the rags

I hate VAR. But given it is here, it make sense to play it to your advantage as much as possible.

On your comment about my post history, i'm afraid that speaks a bit more about you than it does about me. Believe it or not, back in 2012, talking about United fans being loyal and sticking at it through thick and thin was very clear irony.

Have you informed pep yet ?
