Post Something Interesting

I thought that but I had seen several reasons why they are called it.

"The Maple Leafs say that the name comes from a regiment of the same name"

I've heard a few different theories myself mate.

However.

"Maple Leafs as it refers to a organization or sports franchise is considered a proper noun and not bound by normal rules of grammar and spelling. Proper nouns identify and specify the subject whether it is a person's name or the name of an organization".

Similarly ‘legless’. There were a lot of cider houses along West Country canals and rivers. Old fashioned cider would get to your legs and you were carried out and laid on the bank to recover.
I found warm sake had the same effect, didn’t feel drunk but the legs would not work.
Same as blind drunk...the chemicals found in apple pips in scrumpy can cause loss of sight

Perhaps "Surprising" rather than "Interesting" but I read in the newspapers of a court case involving a "Military Veteran". Apparently just 1 day on active duty (even as reservists) qualifies you as a veteran.
