Post Something Interesting

When Hitler became Chancellor, he announced that he would not draw a salary, but instead donate it all to charity.

What he did not reveal to the public was that he was receiving 'backhanders' and expenses from the German taxpayer to the tune of millions of Reichsmarks per year.

For example, he ordered the German Post Office to put his face on their stamps, and personallly charged them a royalty of RM 50 million for the privilege.

Every German couple getting married received a free copy of Mein Kampf, paid for by the state. Hitler was paid a royalty on each copy, worth RM 1.2 million in 1933 alone. In total, he earned around RM 7.8 million from the book, and most people didn't buy it voluntarily.

Hitler's palatial manor house, the Berghof at Berchtesgaden, was paid for by the state. As were his three private aircraft, his cars and his personal train.
Fuck me Trump has done the same, it’s like he’s got a check list!

Are there 8 continents now?

Zealandia is an almost entirely submerged mass of continental crust in Oceania that subsided after breaking away from Gondwana 83–79 million years ago. It has been described variously as a submerged continent, continental fragment, and microcontinent. The name and concept for Zealandia was proposed by Bruce Luyendyk in 1995, and satellite imagery shows it to be almost the size of Australia A 2021 study suggests Zealandia is over a billion years old.
By approximately 23 million years ago, the landmass may have been completely submerged. Today, most of the landmass (94%) remains submerged beneath the Pacific Ocean. New Zealand is the largest part of Zealandia that is above sea level, followed by New Caledonia

New Zealand was initially considered as a potential state during the federation process. And the invitation is still open, they can join whenever they like..

Australians and kiwis can move to and live in each others countries without application and eventually apply for citizenship.... however it's one way traffic, many thousands of kiwis move to Australia for job opportunities, more affordable housing and warmer weather. Very few Aussies move to NZ.

We love them though. :)

Remarkably similar in attitudes to English and Irish.

I didn't know about it but went straight into into it about 20 years ago, I couldn't deal with it is, never seen anything like it before, it was completely unexpected.

Imagine someone from France or America approaching it, we drive on the left in the UK and Australia, they would surely find it harder than me.
As far as I know it's the only one in existence.

Driven around it a few times, it's take your pick whether you do it clockwise or anticlockwise. Pretty easy really after a few goes.

For any first time users... it's definitely one to do perfectly sober.

In 1964, two left-wing students from the University of Aberdeen followed UK Prime Minister Alec Douglas-Home to the house of John and Priscilla Buchan, where he was staying.

The PM was alone at the time as (due to a lack of room at the house) his bodyguard was staying at another property. On answering the door, the students informed him that they planned to kidnap him.

He responded, "I suppose you realise that if you do, the Conservatives will almost certainly win the election by 200 or 300."

He gave his intending abductors some beer, and after a brief period of discussion, the Buchans returned home. At that point, the students decided to abandon their plot.

It's more fun with a few inches of snow on the ground.

I entered this horror at around 5 p.m. rush hour one day, I didn't know it existed until I found myself going around in circles. Sweating!
