PPI claims

I received a letter today from my bank asking me if I felt I had been miss sold PPI on a couple of loans I had in 2005 2006 . I have not been in contact with them or anyone else prior to this . They must be doing some in house investigating I have to fill a form in and send it back .

Rushed through the form from the Ombudsman, copy and pasted some example reasons as to why I was missold, sent it to the bank. Got a cheque for £4k.

It was honestly that easy.

everyone's at it, if you can't remember all the places you've had credit then join creditexpert and you can check all your last 6 years credit. You get the first month free so join, have a look and cancel before the months out or you'll get charged

If you don't want the £750, I can gladly take it off your hands!

hehe .....

still haven't made my mind up whether to accept it or not ....

trouble is i've always been indecisive , or at least i think i have...

not gonna be much good to you up there in Norway though , is it ??

Would you manage to get a couple of pints of lager and a box of condoms out of it ?

If I were you I'd write saying you have been advised that their offer appears very low and would they please itemise their calculations. That way you keep all options open while appearing savvy. That might encourage them to raise the amount. There's a very strong chance it was just an opening bid on their part. Good luck, mate.

Tried to get the offer 'upped' ..... but unfortunately NatWest stood firm .

i was sold ppi on a loan i took out straight after graduating. I was in temporary employment at the time so couldnt have claimed anything back if i left my job but thats what they told me i could do when they sold me the insurance.
i recently applied for a refund directly with lloyds tsb but had a rejection letter saying they think i was sold the ppi fairly!!!!! have decided to try one of these companies now that hopefully will get me something back but i'll lose 25% to them.

you don't get a better chance through one of the companies, Lloyds TSB are the worse to deal with apparently, they will try and put you off. You need to contact them and tell them you're going to refer it to the ombudsman, they will not want you to do that as it'll cost them £850 + all admin costs but you have every right to do it

I got a Barclaycard a few years ago and bought one thing with it. When I got the bill there was PPI attached to it. I paid it and cut the card up and never used it since. Last week, completely out of the blue, I got a letter off Barclaycard asking me if I want to claim for PPI refund! Bloody hell, they're inviting me to claim! Problem is I 've no idea when or how much I paid or whether it's worthwhile claiming for just one month. Do they refund just what you paid or do they award you 'damages'. I could do with about 25k actually, pay off my mortgage and go to the World Cup next year! :)

From 3 credit cards and a mortgage there was no ppi on any of them! Fuck all :(

But I received a letter last week about my ppi claim on another credit card and they said the company (Capital One) will not respond and therefore has been referred to the ombudsman.
They advised this could take 18 months but that a good percentage (can't remember what) result in a payout.

Has anyone had any experience of successful claims against Capital One or indeed if it has actually taken 18 months to come through??

there are so many people claiming that the ombudsman has a massive backlog but they will get to you. Send a letter informing them of your intention to refer your claim to the ombusman, at the most it'll cost you £10 and the least it'll cost them is £850 it cost them because they have to pay £850 to the ombudsman and then all admin fees too.

A few years back I did take out some loans jointly with a lady friend. Would she need to be involved if I were to enquire re PPI?

I would have thought so, I've claimed for things in my own name and some in both mine and my wifes. She's just signed the papers and done nowt else mind.

If it was within 6 years you can join creditexpert and check all your credit history from the last 6 years, you get a free month so make sure you cancel it within 30 days or you'll be charged a monthly fee of about £16. If they are asking you to claim you deffo be owed summat. Read Belly2000 post further back in this thread as he's put on good links. I think you can write to the card company and ask for a Subject Access Request, see Belly's post.
