That's why I was genuinely taken aback to see comments on this thread in a style I'd consider boastful and arrogant.
I wouldn't let it get to you, every team has those who think they'll stick 6 past everyone else.

We (and you) know that City should win the game easily, but we also know that football doesn't always work out like that, as we only took a single point off Burnley last year, who knows, you could be the same this year, though we do look far more focussed and hungry right now, so I don't see it.

Yes - this entirely. Someone else asked whether I know any Man City fans and being as how (apart from a couple of weeks at an OU summer school at UMIST) I've never spent much time in Manchester, the answer is no.

I've known a whole bloody load of Manures, Lpools, Arsenholers and Spudsers though. Half-interested, bone-headed, glory hunting jacklegs and snivelling lickspittles - every last one of 'em. Ones that swap their allegiance depending on who's on top at this very moment and you can't even be bothered to dispute it with them because you can barely remember who it was they were supposed to "support" in the first place - that support amounting to owning a team branded coffee mug, watching them on MOTD and crowing to anyone listening whenever "their" team wins something and waiting for you to congratulate them as though they personally had contributed to the victory.

Those ones.

I'd always considered you to be more grounded in reality. To be able to understand that, like ying and yang, you have to endure the shitty times in order to properly enjoy the good times. Otherwise, what have you got to measure them against?

So I'd considered Man City fans to be more like "us".

PS Thanks for the "Mr" by the way. It's 2015 mate. Just because I follow the football......We even play it sometimes now you know!

Welcome to the board and rest assured that most match going fans are certainly well measured and realise this is a difficult fixture. The majority of us have grown up watching our neighbours win everything and would never let that make us feel any less a City fan. I'm sure you can forgive us for having some optimism after a life filled of pesimism for many! What do you see your starting 11 being against City? Am I right that your entire starting 11 bar possibly Watson are rested tonight?

Yep that's right. And we're 1-0 down already for our troubles!

You're right too, that you ought to win, on paper, but that much stranger things have happened. These aren't championship-level journeymen we've got now, they're internationals who've played regularly in La Liga and Serie A.

We've still got a lot of new players to sort out and bed in, but the back 4 and midfield of Capoue and Behrami is looking good so far. The Cameroonian right back, Nyom, who we got on a (ahem) free from our Granada cousins looks like a beast. See what you think Saturday. I reckon he'll be the first one of ours to go for big money to someone.

Out wide it'll probably be wee Jocky McAnya on one side (fastest thing on two legs, but with the crossing ability of my five year old) and Jose Jurado (looked good in patches, but still to really thrill) on the other.

Up front, to be frank, Deeney is looking like he might not be able to make the step up. He can't bully Prem defences like he did in the championship. If anyone's going to surprise you, it could be Odion Ighalo. He sat £30m star Stones on his backside v Everton before slotting it away into the corner. He's one of those ones who doesn't appear to do very much, but then pops up with a goal from nowhere.

You might also catch a few minutes of Alessandro Diamante if your lucky. Ageing scruffbag Italian usedtobe and Keith Lemon lookalike who's only played one half for us so far. Looks like he might have a wand of a left foot, but perhaps won't be doing very much running around.

Thanks for the info, If you look page one Nyom is the player I highlighted as key to our game and the battle in midfield with Capoue and Behrami will also be a decisive factor. I'm looking forward to the match and wish you luck for the season. Is the goal to stay up or you have higher aspirations?

@mag Agreed was quite delighted to see they played tonight, they have a big squad so I wouldn't be surprised if a fair bit of rotation as per below. I think the entire team is almost rotated?
I have noticed this often happens in early rounds for the newly promoted sites Leading to early exit, 1v0 Preston

Watford
  • 34 Arlauskis
  • 14 Paredes
  • 03 Britos
  • 04 Angella
  • 16 Aké
  • 23 Watson
  • 28 Smith
  • 11 Forestieri
  • 22 Abdi
  • 19 Layun
  • 10 Vydra
Substitutes
  • 13 Gilmartin
  • 18 Pudil
  • 20 Berghuis
  • 27 Belkalem
  • 31 Hoban
  • 33 Dyer
Only selected 6 subs wtf

@Ducado

So they are actually thinking they can get something at Etihad? Saving first XI for us? Anyone else, a newly promoted side, might have gone the other way and considered our game to be a "free-hit" and instead taken this game tonight more seriously as win tonight and it puts you into last 32, just another round away from quarters.

I have no idea what they think as a team of course fans of newly promoted clubs always get a bit giddy and for good reason they cause many a shock at the start of every season, Blackpool turned Liverpool over twice, Cardiff beat us (and then went on to lose every other game) and who can forget Burnley however we are in devastating form at the moment
