Pre Match Thread: Chelsea vs City

I really hope we get something from this game, and not just a whooping!
We can't seem to put away the few chances that we create and matched with our 'keystone cops style' defending at the moment, I'm worried we will get embarrassed by the chavs and Maureen.
The smug look and the media frenzie after would be too much for me!!
Come on city. This is our chance to pull it back on track.
Lose this, and I think the confidence will tumble and I worry we could end up slipping out if the top 4 before the season finishes. Pessimistic I agree, but a real possibility.

No we will respond whatever because in the short term there are some big assets coming back to City:

Yaya Toure
Nasri
Bony
Aguero fully fit

Those are 4 of the best players in the League.

Chelsea need to put an 8 point gap to City. If they don't, then we should overhaul them.

We're playing Chelsea with a weakened team and maybe a short o confidence and belief, but the pressure is all on Chelsea because in a fortnight we will be significantly stronger

Good job we've passed the 40 point mark so you don't have to worry about relegation.

Get real, at which grounds and against which teams do you see them dropping points? We've still got to go to Stoke, Old Trafford, white Hart lane and anfield. Even If we beat Chelsea I don't see us winning it due to the much harder fixture list we've got.

The more I think about this, I think we should go 4-4-2.

First off, I don't think Mourinho will be expecting it, so that's a positive way to start. But secondly and more importantly, I don't think we need to pack the midfield in the same way as if we were facing an attacking side going all out for the win. I am 100% covinced Maureen will be playing to not get beaten on Saturday. It would be madness not to in his position, and combine that with his naturally defensive-minded mentality and it is inevitably the way he will set them up.

They will allow us lots of possession in harmless areas and they will defend deep and be very organised. Doubtless they will mark Silva out of the game, or at least try to, with Matic and Willian. I don't see them trying to boss the midfield at all to be honest. And if we play with only Aguero up front on his own, not getting much service from Silva, and likely none at all from Navas, Fernandino, Fernando and perhaps Milner, I can't see us breaking Chelsea down.

But play 4-4-2 and we have a good chance. Dzeko will keep Terry and Cahill (assuming he plays) very busy and Aguero will run in and around and in between and cause havoc.

Yes it's risky, but so is playing 4-5-1. If we play with only 1 striker, I'd back Chelsea to score on the break as being more likely than us breaking down their defence. I think 4-4-2 is our best option.

Wenger tried the reverse of this and City weren't expecting it. It worked for Arsenal, so why don't we be defensive and surprise JM?

Chelsea will play the way they always play at home. Not much different to how they played against us last season, which was not much different to how they played against Liverpool. It will not be gung ho or pretty but it certainly wont be ultra defensive, they save that for the away matches.

If its level after 70 mins they'll settle for a draw. If they're leading they will shut up shop earlier. But they'll start the game looking to win. Mourinho will be confident that Hazard will cause our defense problems. He'll be confident that they can score from set pieces. He'll be confident that he can outfox Pellegrini. He will not be that confident that they can keep us scoreless for 90 mins. Too much chance of a moment of magic from Aguero or a late goal from Lampard again. Which would make him look foolish.

We all said the same thing last season when we still had to visit White Hart Lane, Old Trafford, Anfield and Goodison.

Spurs and Utd aren't as bad as last season, look at spurs they gave Chelsea a pasting. Anfield we never ever win so we can mark that one down. Our side is nowhere near last years and we're defending like kids at the moment.

They have dropped a lot more than 5 points over the first half of the season. City will improve. We can play better. I am not sure they can. We don't need Chelsea to do anything different in the 2nd half of the season, but we can improve a lot. For example we've dropped quite a few points at home.
