prem league winter break

BBC Sport.

The Premier League is considering introducing a winter break when the next television rights deal is agreed.

The top leagues in Germany, France, Italy and Spain all take time out in mid-season.

The Football Association has previously said a winter break is not feasible until the end of the current television deal in 2019.

I certainly would be. Too much football crammed in before, during and after Christmas and the New Year.

Give the players the first 2 weeks off in January, with the FA Cup 3rd the first game back.

not against it but something will have to give in order to fit a winter break in though...

FA cup replays?
League cup 2 legged semi final?
18 team league?
More midweek league fixtures?
Extend the league season?
reduction in international breaks?

I am for it as performances are affected so 1-2 weeks off might help but could this not be from say 26th Dec to mid/early Jan?

- Yeah i agree FA Cup replays need to be scrapped.
- The nations league will add extra competitive games for top players in the Autumn with less friendlies and games against terrible teams (England/Germany)
- Push the league a bit into May (sunny weather)
- If the lower/local leagues were on over the festive period then more may attend those - extra Revenue.

Not against it if its in January just cant be arsed with them using it as an excuse to go to the other side of the world to play friendlies

I would get rid of international friendlies just as the season starts. I know we probably need them but christ they bore me to tears, finding myself clock watching until the next weekend.

It just seems a stupid time for them to because the prem is just getting going and it can do without such interruptions imo, really irksome.

I think a winter break is needed but after Christmas, get rid of FA cup replays, no Carabao 2 leg- semi just play it at a neutral venue. Cut down on the God awful international breaks.

I think it has to be done sooner or later, even if it's just one weekend off.

Pep talks about referees protecting the players, but it's not only the referees that have that responsibility. I think the stats show there is a significant increase in injuries around that time of year.
