prem league winter break

Makes sense, though the TV is bad enough over Christmas without having to contend with no football either!

Maybe just get rid of the League Cup, FA Cup replays (pens on the night aet instead) and perhaps drop the Premier League to 18 clubs.

And get rid of international friendlies. Absolute shite.

Either the League Cup has to go or the league has to become 18 teams.

It would be pointless removing one of the League Cup semi-finals because even if you are not in it the season still feels a slog. The same applies to a team that doesn’t have FA Cup replays.

The killer is that period from mid-December to New Years Day. That is what destroys teams, and football suffers because of it.

A winter break will just ensure a mid-season promotional tour for the top sides in Asia or the US.
I think both actually. Remove the League Cup and cut the PL to 18 teams. We need to get the number of games down to become more competitive internationally.

There's no reason they couldn't change the rules to still give lower and non-league sides a big chunk of money.

Split gate profits & TV money 50/50 in each game for example. Drawing a big club away would still provide a big pay day - also IMO it would be better for the competition. Instead of a shock result being rewarded with a replay the smaller team almost always loses, they could have a penalty shootout and have a legitimate chance of knocking a giant out.
They do split he money for individual clubs in the FA Cup, pretty sure it's all the revenue less expenses divided equally between the FA, and the two teams .

Who gives a fuck about International football anymore, from our supporters club of around 30there is one lad who is bothered about the England team.

Hmm I think I expressed myself badly there. Champions League is what I mean by "international". Sorry for using the wrong wording. I don't care about national teams anymore.

for the first time i can see what benefit a break would do our team, the only problem i see is will they cram the missed games either side of the break causing major problems.

For those saying get rid of International Friendly's, 2 things

1. all international dates are set by Fifa & there isn't anything the FA or Premier League can do about those so the domestic calendar has to be set around those &
2. The Uefa nations League is designed to reduce the amount of Friendly's & increase the amount of games that "matter" (Not saying it will, just passing on the message)

I would be in favour of a couple of weeks break after the FA Cup 3rd Round games.

The problem with scrapping the League Cup for all PL teams is those not in Europe it leaves with realistically only the FA Cup to try & win. So maybe any team in Europe is excused from the League Cup, gives lower prem team a shot at winning something & a route into Europe & gives those in Europe some rest on League Cup nights?

Cup replays, I can see the sense in getting rid (extra money we have to pay out etc...) but can see the downside for lower league clubs, although having the game sorted on the day maybe gives a better chance of knocking a higher team out on Pen's than grabbing a draw at home then getting done in the replay 4/5-0.

I think the PL should look at getting a fixture put midweek at the start of the season, the first 3 games of the season are played over the weekends with a week gap then the international break. Could get a game in between the first & second weekends (like they used to) *note, may clash with CL qualifier so not even that straight forward.

Interesting to what they come up, especially in 2022 when the World Cup is in November/December & i believe there will be a 6 week PL break to accommodate!

For it as long as the club does not decide to tour somewhere exotic for friendlies and have a proper break.
As others have said, scrap the Cariboo Cup (or have teams in Europe exempt from it), scrap FA Cup replays and it seems with the Nations Cup, internationals are here to stay so cannot cut any of those even though I find them utterly pointless at times and have no interest in them

You don't even need to get rid of the league cup, you just need to say that any team in Europe doesn't have to play in it. It would also mean that we get a new team in the Europa league every season. And then you can have it on at the same time as the Champions League. But I'm guessing the TV people wouldn't be a fan of that.

I think FA Cup replays are part of the magic of the FA Cup so I wouldn't want to see them gone.

As for the risk of exhibition games, you can easily ban them. I don't know what they do in Germany. Do the players have an actual holiday, or do the team continue to train together? I could easily see us going to Abu Dhabi for a winter training camp. Even then, there's a massive difference between a competitive game and a friendly against a local team for training purposes.

As I understand it though, all of these competitions are run by different organisations, meaning that none of them will want to be the one that misses out. Will the EFL be happy with their cup competition missing the big teams? It will almost certainly result in a reduction in sponsorship. The current deal with Carabao is set to run until 2020, so I can't imagine any changes until after that.
