Premier League Games 14/15/16 December

Leicester-Spurs off.

Not sure whether they'll pause the season for 1-2 weeks or they'll just soldier on and play the games possible.

With the World Cup next season there really isn't much space to delay this season, unless next season drags into the summer after.

I imagine there'll be plenty of games played during European mid-weeks but that's useless to teams still in Europe.

From a City perspective I imagine we'll want as few postponements as possible.

I think it's better to either shutdown for a few weeks or cancel the league if games are a lottery of who tests positive. I'm all for safety and health first and as much as I would hate for it to be called off with us sitting pretty it won't sit well with teams struggling to put out their best teams and makes the fixtures devalued.

It’s an impossible decision. If they shut down for 2 weeks, there will still be loads of cases in squads.

I think away fans travelling unnecessarily needs to come into their decision making. Calling of Watford’s game at Burnley 2.5 hours before it’s due to start is a kick in the nuts for the Watford fans.

Then surely better to cancel it altogether if the signs are it's getting worse for the next couple weeks. It's a lottery just now so it's going to get worse with or without fans. What's the point of teams playing depleted sides just to ensure the contracts are fulfilled. I love watching us as much as the next fan but don't really see what good can come of continuing to struggle through the latest surge in Covid where at the end of it a team will be crowned champions of a league title that will be so unfair in so many ways.

My guess is money is stopping them at the moment.

All amateur teams have to play if they have 8 fit players and get fined if they don’t. I know it’s a different stratosphere to the PL, but PL clubs have 25 man squads and unlimited youth players.

Whatever is decided, we need more transparent info. We don’t know how rife it is.

Just found the Brentford tickets arrived yesterday, the last away game I got tickets for was BCD but they were never posted.

If they postpone until January and there are still loads of outbreaks across the Premier League, what are they going to do then? Postpone the season for another four weeks? Finish the season in June or July? Where does the line get drawn? Teams need to play as many games as possible, postponing the odd game, and then make the difference up later. Maybe we could stop pointless international friendlies for the rest of the season so that domestic leagues can get finished instead, eh?

Think cancelling at this stage is extremely hasty. I suspect clubs will again impose very strict protocols on their players and as a result the season will get done. As it stands right now players and staff have far more freedom than they did this time last year. As an example Pep going off to Barcelona yesterday is complete madness in the current climate.
