Premier League Games 18/19/20 August '18

Am I the only one who thought Palace outplayed them in the 2H? If I'm a Liverpool fan I wipe my brow. They very well could have drawn that match, and Palace as we well know has been a banana skin for them before. Agree the 2-0 flatters Liverpool. Of course . . . no commentator I've heard thinks anything other than they are "clear contenders" after that performance; not sure what match they were watching. Palace is going to surprise a few sides I think.

I think thats the point Palace will not surprise a lot of sides as its generally known as a tough match there. Hence the plaudits for Pool as its a potential banana skin they have navigated.

PL table after Matchweek 2. Couldn't fit united on there.

What this fucking ‘Pool’ shit. You sound like one of the delude fuckwits I have to put up with living in Liverpool.

This Liverpool -- by all accounts -- shouldn't be thinking about anyone being a banana skin other than City. Just as we think they are. Which is why the press are jerking off praising them for winning on a dodgy-ish pen and a very fortuitous deflection right to Salah when Palace had nine guys pressing to score an equalizer. I don't think we'd look at the match were it City and praise it as up to or exceeding expectations. But a win's a win, and onwards we all go.

They are our biggest competitors, followed by Chelsea.
Palace is a tough place to go and get 3 points, we didn't do that least year which shows just how tough it can be

Liverpool withstand tough test at Crystal Palace, confirm status as title challengers says ESPNFC, followed, in the first sentence, by "The Premier League needs a strong Liverpool this season." Eyeroll.

I don't think that match confirmed any such thing. They were outplayed for a half.

Now if they dominate a team that has historically given them fits, away at a tough park, THAT "confirms" them as "title challengers" perhaps. That performance today did not IMO.

Anyway, it's semantics. They are challengers probably regardless.

As with last season, Liverpool's real test will come when they're playing twice a week. That's when they struggled last season, because they didn't have the squad depth to cope.

I'm with Cookster on this. Anything can be classed as an opinion - but premature opinions without much foundation are open to challenge, and will often be construed by others as a 'guess'.

Yes, very similar to those who predicted City would win the league last season. In fact ‘guesses’ by your definition make up a lot of the forum but typically only get challenged when its praising a rivals performance or highlighting the likelihood of a challenge.

No doubt those on the United thread suggesting they will miss out on top 4 or crap etc have had their ‘opinions/guesses’ rounded upon.

There all fair points. Maybe its an irrational fans view but Palace away always has a slight sense of forboding, for instance, more than a West Ham, Bournemouth, Newcastle etc even though those clubs will probably finish higher or similarly placed.

As you have stayed Pool required a bit of luck to win, which again highlights a trip to Palace as a tough outing and so in this context gaining the three points is viewed as a decent result.
