That explanation would only work if VAR was from a flat bird’s-eye-view from above. We’re looking at it from the side so the only straight line is at 0° in front of us, where the defender is isn’t at 0° so the line will always be at a slightly different angle because of perspective.

We wouldn't be having these discussions if the lines were shown on the screen at the time which they are pretty much all of the time apart from when it involves the Rags or Livarpool.
