Premier League Games 25/26/27 October 2024

This reminds me of a question I meant to research from the other day: where did the term “shiner”—referring to a black eye, usually from being punched—come from?

I assume it has something to do with shoe shining, but I wanted to confirm.

At the time it was said, the skin of black people tended to give off a shine or gleam, the word shiner was first used in the context of shame. Bruising caused by trauma to the eye usually turns black in colour and the word shiner for black eye became a common form of slang.

Teams have got to stop giving Arsenal the ball back when they kick it out to time waste. Timber didn't even receive treatment there. It's obvious cheating.
