Most things the PL touches are a disaster, so it wouldn't surprise me.
There are three versions of SAOT out there. One uses a chip in the ball (the WC one), the second uses limb-tracking (the CL one). Basically they turn the players into "skeletons" and track a few key points on their body using cameras. In both of these versions, those graphics that you see take about 5 minutes to generate because that's not the thing they use to make the decision. It's actually just a computer algorithm with no graphical output (that's why you never see them straight away during the broadcast).
Whereas this new system supposedly generates a 3D model of the entire scene. Then it uses that 3D model as the basis of its decision - and it uses AI to fill in the gaps between frames and parts that the camera can't see. So the graphic that you see will be the same model used to make the decision.
However, they were supposed to be deploying it around about now and... as you may have noticed, it isn't here yet.
