Premier League meeting to discuss salary cap?

Isn't the next tv deal in the process of taking tenders. Is this a way for the (Yank) owners to stop the players agents knocking on the door asking for their piece of the pie. Get a wage cap in soon as and say sorry our hands are tied now.

Is this to be a maximum salary player by player, or by squad? And will it be equal across the PL or based on income to please rags.
Also, if the cap is enough it might still leave the PL as the highest paying league so we'd lose fewer players to Europe.
There are too many unknowns, but if the owners of Arse, rags and dippers want it, then it's bad for the game and PL.

A salary cap will be welcomed. Prices of players, wages and all resultant costs throughout football have grown out of control.

The knock on effect should be quite fair to fans... and it'd encourage homegrown academy players.over purchases from overseas. The money would more likely stay domestically, unless you have a club of asset strippers...

There will be a fair few ways around salary caps. I'd imagine signing on fees, rental agreements, bonuses etc could be several avenues. Also, legacy contracts would need phasing out. Some Chelsea players have 7 and 8 year contracts. If they brought in a cap in say 2028/29, could we expect massive contract lengths being signed the season prior?

There are pros and cons all around, but if the conditions to create a fairer footballing financial landscape could work, why not try?

This is a far more welcome debate than historic FFP charges etc. With our club so gered to building a youth to first team player, we'd be in a good position. Drop another 20 million off a transfer and that could benefit another aspect of the club.

Why are many worried by the Saudi league? They have overseas player limits too. They've been around for decades and there's more room at the international table. They won't turn the Premier Legue and English football to non-league anytime soon.
And if the homegrown academy players are good enough then they'll go abroad for better money and better leagues.

You don't need a wage cap just only allowed to spend a certain % of turnover o players wages! Oh ffp already had it but that wanker Gill removed it..

His team could be back in championship in a few years like a lot of teams that a yo-yo teams they make major decisions! Oh the yanks are pushing for all these rules! The league in 20 years be just like the American sports! The Saudi league will even take the young top players! Premier being arrogant here thinking they'll never go the way of over leagues!
Premier league is losing the biggest leverage over rest of Europe and America which is money on offer mostly.

I thought there was clauses in contract in salary cutting down in dropping out of premier league, champions league slots. There is a lot of bad management at these clubs at some point if not managed properly they will hit bankruptcy.

What's wrong with spending your money on players wages? They're the ones actually kicking the ball about.

Things that should be introduced: ticket price cap and a debt limit.
I think they underestimate who the real stars are and clubs are platform providers for the top stars that draw new fans and raise commercial value of premier league. It’s business end of the day and it’s all about entertainment factor too.

Not unless demand dramatically drops.

Ticket prices are outrageous but so incredibly is demand, hence why you see make stadium capacity developpements.
Exactly, that's why there should be a price cap. Clubs will never do it themselves.

Matchday revenue is only 14% of total revenue for PL clubs, that's total matchday revenue, not just ticket sales. The atmosphere and full stadiums are part of the broader appeal, the fans inside the stadium are part of the game, part of what's being sold and should be given a break.

I know lots of people can afford it, but lots of people can't.

I get what you're saying, but as long as stadiums are full, they're not going to drop ticket prices

More importantly, there should be a cap on ticket prices.

£30 is plenty.

Home fans shouldn’t be paying anymore than away fans are. Yet my season ticket works out at £49 a game, never mind matchday tickets.
