RE Populism:
>> You are saying something that's true of all politicians as if it's true if just Trump.
On issues that they don't have a strong opinion about most politicians will go along with their base. But to knowingly lie about issue after issue even if it means endangering others - this is something - if not uniquely Trump - quite extraordinary. Trump knowing lied about the potential danger that COVID posed to the country because "the numbers" would look bad for him - this is simply an example.
RE International Policy:
I liked Trump's get-tough-on-China politics quite a lot. Other than that, his international policy was a disaster.
From unilaterally reneging on a treaty signed with our European partners designed to deter Iran from developing nuclear weapons and thus casting doubt on the US' trustworthiness; to his attacks on NATO; and his fatuous obsession with Putin and Jong Un to the extent that Trump would take Putin's word on matters even when US intelligence indicated quite clearly that Putin was lying. A remarkable display of incompetence.
RE "showed my wife video evidence that Trump didn't call white Supremacist good people"
Fair point about Trump not calling white supremists good.
That said, Trump is like one of those mafia Dons who know that everything he says is taped. And so he both says - and does not say - many things. Trump is a master of this double-speak; for example:
As were his remarks to the crowd on 1/6:
RE The fact that I couldn't bring myself to vote for him in spite of agreeing more with him than any viable Democrats.
I'm glad you didn't vote for him.
