Think we played Chester the day after Crewe
Correct - I went to both games.
The Chester branch put on a do before the game in the Liberal club. We made our way to Sealand Road and arrived maybe 10 mins before kick off and they had 2 turnstiles open around the whole ground.... we heard the game kick off and still not near getting in. The wall was maybe 8 ft high with no barbed wire or anything so two friends gave me a bunk up and then I pulled them up. Loads followed suit! The only ground I have ever jibbed in!

The Crewe game the day before had the hilarious scene of around 10 mins to go, the bloke in the tannoy box (behind us Blues at the back of the stand) vacated the box and a few of the Mayne Line boys went into it and (a bit like the scene from Shawshank Redemption) starting singing City songs over the tannoy as the game carried on.... stewards rushed up to the box but couldn't force their way in as the Blues carried on singing..... happy days!

Someone said 98 but I remember a friendly either 2000 or 01 that I went to at Deepdale. During the week night game.
I think I was at that, testimonial for long standing Preston player Ryan Kidd. Took my late father in law who was a Preston fan. Pretty sure we won and Ryan Kidd thanked the huge City following for coming to support it, we have him a standing ovation.

It would have been 2002 as I remember it was the first time I saw Distin for us, he was one of the players who came over to the Kop with balls to give the away fans at the start. All Preston players had Kidd on their back, and they brought Ryan on to take a free kick near the end. He looked injured and the shot was very wayward. I assumed was part of the Macken deal, but may have been a coincidence.

1998 was the Bill Shankly tournament where we beat Preston on the Sat and lost on pens to Tranmere the day after in the 'final', we got part of the main stand as there were 4 sets of supporters.

Our preseason plans are always a mess. Other teams seem to be organising games this week. We now only have Preston and the Charity Shield before our opener against Spurs.
