Priced out? | Club announce that matchday tickets being reduced by up to 43% (p93)

Few stay on to 25 ,doctors maybe, sorry I'm not having 24 year olds getting concession prices. Yes some 24 year olds don't have the spare money my son does I would bet so do many 26 year olds don't either. When I was 29 I was strapped I didn't expect the club to reduce prices I accepted at that time I had to give up my season ticket and football.
I would guess most 21 -35 year olds missing aren't missing due to cost, they have other priorities. and like me missing from 29 to 35 then I came back and brought my son.
I’m not saying 25 for university am I. Plenty stay on until there 21/22 though. I’m going off my own experiences and that of people I know. I’m 31 now, but after uni I was unemployed and then went into low paid work, as do most young people.

Cost is absolutely one of the main reasons why that age group aren’t attending. There priced out and then get out of the habit. Asking 22 year olds to all of sudden pay adult prices, prices loads of young adults out. (Nearly a million are unemployed)

The clear example of that is cheaper cup games and champions league games, where you actually see groups of younger adults attending.

We shouldn’t just accept it, like you did. If we did that we wouldn’t have the cheaper away tickets we do today. I’m not having it that most younger adults just have other priorities and cost isn’t a factor in that. Cheaper tickets for younger adults say a 21-25 ticket seems like common sense to me

If we don’t encourage younger adults to attend, who is replacing all the older fans who will stop going over the next few years?

My season ticket costs on average £41.80 (with platinum) per game in block in south stand level 0. Matchday members can buy tickets in the same block for the likes of Leeds, Bournemouth and Burnley for £38. Which just doesn’t seem right at all. I’m all for making the GA tickets cheaper and understand that the higher profile tickets will be more expensive for GA, but there seems to be very little financial benefit across the season for having a season ticket.

But there won't be tickets at that price for the likes of united, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, Villa. And members will have paid £25 or £35 to have the opportunity to buy those tickets.

However there's an interesting point here. It's about having a clear pricing structure, which we now have, and relating the pro-rata cost to the category. So your pro-rata cost for a lower category game, like Burnley, will be lower than £41.80, whereas the pro-rata cost for a higher category game would be higher. Arsenal do this, so if you put your ticket on their exchange for a Cat A game, you'll get back more than if it's for a Cat C game. City should do the same, so the link between season ticket pricing and matchday pricing is more transparent.

Probably not a popular view but I’d be happy to pay a premium to be guaranteed my seat for every game and have first dibs at away tickets.

Season Tickets at City are too expensive. That’s why so many fans have given them up over the years during our greatest ever era, when you’d think they’d do anything to keep them.

The average match price for ST holders on the Kop at Anfield is £37. Even their most expensive ST in their Main Stand comes to just £47 per game (mine in ESL0 at City is £51 per game, and isn’t even the most expensive ticket in the stadium).

Look at the prices of your equivalent behind the goal STs in the Bundesliga this season:

Your equivalent seat at Bayern comes to £8.92 per game. Dortmund are ripping their fans off with tickets at an average of £13.32 per game.

And German clubs don’t have just a few hundred STs at this price like PL clubs might. Many Bundesliga clubs put 50% of their available STs at the cheaper end of the prices. Bayern have 16,000 STs at the cheaper prices.

Could you put your seat on the ticket exchange and buy it back at the cheaper rate? (Probably not, but it makes the pricing policy look slightly off)

Completely agree, way way too expensive.

When we have had double headers with German teams the ticket for the away game was always a lot more than the home game.

You can't expect to pay a third of what a League 2 walk on pays for a PL game.

The Average South Stand ticket is far cheaper than Anfield's Kop, while the most common price per game is £39.

Yes you can, and always have been able to do that with Junior membership, although for a top cat game there would be no saving.

Had email now saying SC holders can buy four tickets for Dortmund and Leverkusen games, that's as well as the Bournemouth game. Just think all those fans that have been priced out, they are now out of the habit of attending and won't return, tourists not a big enough pool to fill the gaps. Or is TV finally killing off the game with so many live games.

Take off platinum and it works out about the same. Platinum is a choice to get extra benefits

Economic theory would probably support the view that people would pay more for convenience. You're getting a tangible benefit from having a season ticket that non-season ticket holders don't get.

In the real-world though, companies are usually prepared to offer a discount for subscriptions or up-front payments.

Now tell us how much the ticket prices are for the rest if Bayerns stadium. Far more expensive than the PL.

My season ticket in the middle of SSL3 is £560. Under £30 a game which is fantastic value.

Absolutley. There's a lot of shit written about how cheap German football is. Yes, there are a limited number of cheap ST's - the equivalent of SS level 1 (ok 0 now) which are held onto and never come on the market as they are passed from generation to generation. The rest of the ground is pretty similar to PL prices. Dont forget ethically owned Bayern (Allianz, Audi, Adidas) have one side of the ground ENTIRELY for corporate seats. Imagine if we did that with the CB stand...

I've paid close to 100 Europes to see City in that top corner at the Allianz Arena. No cheap do for us.

Off topic for 1 post.

It's not only City struggling to sell tickets.

The top tier of the Villa main stand.

Villa yesterday.

But you won't hear any jibes about Villa not selling out a 43,000 capacity.

Football is struggling BECAUSE of the prices, I know fans that can afford it make excuses but there really aren't any that stand up. You want to go with a couple of your kids you may have to sell a fucking kidney.

Totally agree.

Pretty much the only good thing about ticket prices is the £30 capped away tickets prices which was brought in by the PL and PL clubs because away ends where becoming more and more empty due to the £65 away ticket prices. TBH I didn’t expect the £30 away ticket prices to last as long as they have done.

they only had 30,000 for their match against Bologna recently as well
You can add West Ham to the empty seats list as well. They have 1000’s of seats empty all over the stadium, which are clearly visible, unlike those Villa seats at the top of the main stand.

I have a supporter number and over 10,000 pts, I don't think I should have to pay for a membership to attend matches.

I'm not paying £70 just to be eligible to attend games for me and my daughter. I have had a seasoncard for about 12 years previously, but would happily pay for single games such as Dortmund, or cup games that don't sell out, but obviously can't do that if I'm not prepared to pay the membership. But how many seasoncard holders are buying an additional 4 tickets when people like me would buy tickets for such games?
