Pro Gay campaign in the Premeier League this weekend

Just to throw in another POV, this is a blog I wrote for Ric earlier this year on being a gay fan in the stands: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/News/Article.aspx?id=345#.UjjgeLz1uIl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/News/Art ... jjgeLz1uIl</a>

why the fuck is this still an issue?

whether someone is black, white, straight, gay?

A lot of sense there mate -good article with perspective that is often lacking in these debates. Just out of interest what do you think of this shoelace idea?

Personally, I think it's a great idea. I take the point that we all want to be the same, however that I am (and I presume many other gay people are) uncomfortable to challenge homophobic comments and that nobody has done on the few occasions I've heard them still says to me that we're not quite there yet. We're a long way down the line and I must stress homophobic stuff is very infrequent, but it still exists and is often brushed off as 'banter'.

The lack of openly gay players is also a bit of an indicator.

I'm a bit concerned about Paddy Power's involvement in this, as it seems a bit cynical by them to gain some good publicity. But heigh ho, I think something needs to be done to prod us the right way and if this is it, then so be it.

I'm interested to see how it goes, to be honest. Could be a great move, could be a disaster. We'll see this weekend, I guess.

The biggest joke about this campaign is Joey (the Internet Intellect) Barton fronting the rainbow laces thing.... Dont they get it, nobody gives a flying fuck about peoples sexual orientation, why the need to have somebody come out, the media and others seem to be desperate for it too happen!
I say just play football and leave the sandal knitting brigade to be outraged that no Premier League player wants the world to know whether he is gay or not!!!

Because fans still like using homophobic chants. In fairness, this is on us collectively, the fans, to fix, not the clubs, so the clubs doing anything at all is worthy of respect.

Sorry, but why do people feel that this is necessary?

I'm not gay, I'm not coloured (well, I've got a pretty decent tan after this summer), I'm not a religious fanatic, and I'm not lots of other things.

If someone is gay, coloured, a religious fanatic . . . well, fair does. I have no problems with that.

But PLEASE stop telling us that because we're not any of these things that means we're against them.

Its mad how there is an entire weekend and a parade dedicated solely to where you like to put your cock or mouth.
I have gay friends i like, i know gay people that i dont like, why cant it just be left at that? I would call that equality. I genuinely dont think that there are enough people who are anti gay in the country to warrant this stuff, if there is then i apologise and i accept this country is a lot thicker than i thought it was
