The problem is that there aren't many good players who don't particularly love football. Gareth Bale might be another example. It is really something, if you don't love an activity, to progress to the highest competitive level in that activity.

I think Peter Beardsley was one who saw it simply as a job and wasn’t mithered about football in general.

I heard football got in the way of his career as a male model.
