There is no doubt that punk changed the music scene in a huge way though.
One day we were being force fed Lena Zavaroni, Rolf Harris and David Soul.
The next day we were listening to the Damned, the pistols and the Clash.
It might not have literally killed off some of those bands but it meant that they were shoved onto the back burner and essentially killed off for many of us.

The Animals were probably where punk started, before the genre got a name.
Then The Ramones came along.
Then Blondie - those lips on Ms. Harry....
