So their plan was to hope Buffon pulled off some worldy saves and then wait for Mangala to slip and the ball to take a fluke bounce off Kolarov's shoulder?Yes, In the sense that they were in control for most of the game and executed their plan perfectly. We may have had more possession but we never looked like winning even when we were ahead.
I wonder how much the change in seedings will impact this. Usually all the top clubs would be in Pot 1 but now there are some with high coefficients like Real Madrid in Pot 2 and PSV & Zenit in Pot 1. So we could come second in the group and get Zenit or Wolfsburg. Or we could top the group and potentially get Real Madrid.I don't know what's happened with the competition rules (there were changes in the initial seeding) but in previous seasons nearly all, if not all the Group winners went on to the Quarter Finals as they got easier draws in the last 16. So if we can top the group, a path might open up that could see us get to the Quarter Finals, and then we can be lucky in the draw.
It was literally the exact opposite of what you've just said.Yes, In the sense that they were in control for most of the game and executed their plan perfectly. We may have had more possession but we never looked like winning even when we were ahead.
If sterling had his shooting boots on their plan would have been fucking shite mate. We had the clear chances.Yes, In the sense that they were in control for most of the game and executed their plan perfectly. We may have had more possession but we never looked like winning even when we were ahead.

No the knock out draw is still done the same way but I meant the way the teams are now allocated to pots could mean getting two teams that would normally be in Pot 1 in the same group. Real Madrid, by coming second in La Liga and going into Pot 2, were then drawn with a top non-Spanish team (PSG), meaning that a team that would normally have been in Pot 1 and expected to win the group, might well be in Pot 2 and come second (or the Pot 1 team will).Just because the change in the way the pots are determined now at the beginning of the competition, I don’t think that has any effect on how they’re done when it gets to the draw for the group stages, does it?
In other words – City finish 1st in their group and Madrid top theirs, you still can’t play each other in Round 2.

Likewise PSV were a Pot 1 team solely by virtue of winning the Eredivisie but are currently bottom of their group (and wouldn't you just know whose group that is).
