Prostate cancer

I've been dealing with a benign prostate for ten years. I've had a biopsy and four scans in that time. I have regular PSA blood tests. One reading came back at 26 once which was a shock. I had another test a week later and it was down to 7.8. It can fluctuate. I had a test recently which had risen to 9.9. They did another 6 weeks later which had risen again to 11.9. The consultant booked me in for a scan and a biopsy. I refused the biopsy as I told him if the scan was clear the biopsy wasn't needed. He reluctantly agreed. Thankfully the scan was clear. Another blood test showed my PSA had dropped slightly to 11.2. He now suspects it could be an infection so I'm waiting for two courses of antibiotics. Good luck, if it doesn't drop go for a scan first. They seem to.push biopsies quickly for some reason but a scan should be a first option.
Yes, I had a biopsy which showed nothing but they then decided on an mri scan which showed a small lesion so it was then a second “targeted” biopsy to determine the nature of the lesion. So if I were going through it again I would push for an mri scan before any biopsy. Took me ages to recover from each biopsy. Other than that my treatment so far by NHS Scotland has been excellent.

I had one a few week ago bloods comeback fine PSA 1.5 but I’ve got an enlarged Prostate the doc had the biggest fingers I’ve ever seen
Just make sure when the Doctor is sticking his finger up your ricker that he doesn’t have both his hands on your shoulders.

In all seriousness I know @A57 the snake story as a friend of mine who had been through the situation was in touch when he was first diagnosed so best wishes to all of you on here going through this horrible disease.

In our golf group of about 25 lads we’ve got three who have had or got PC, two of them diagnosed in their mid 50’s and one late 50’s, my best pal who I sit with at the match was 56 when he was told he had cancer and there was no point removing his prostate as it had already spread to his pelvis. He thought he had a couple of years, after radiotherapy and hormone treatment (gave him oestrogen therapy) he’s still here over 9 years later and has become a Granddad twice in that time, 65 in a couple of months time.

Get tested lads, it’s so important, you leave your dignity at the doorstep when you go to the Doctor’s, they’ve seen it all before and there’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

Thanks for the replies. To be honest, it doesn’t feel like I’m going through anything yet. Could be something, might be nothing. At least the GP is on the ball - already got a text off them telling me to come in so hopefully the doc will give me a first opinion before I see the specialist.

Best wishes to everybody else going though this or like me just waiting to see what we’re dealing with.

Long day today in Christie’s but PET scan all done , just the wait now,got through the door at 7:55pm !! So a great end to a very long day.
Huge thanks to all the staff in the Christie their a different breed to most of our jobs what we all moan about.

Up the blues .
I was back in Christie’s yesterday after the cancer was confirmed, Sadly the CT scan didn’t go to plan as there’s a slight problem with my bowel but their going to give the scan another go first tomorrow morning we’re still confident the outlook is promising, and we’re still booked in for 5 weeks of radiotherapy it’s just a minor detour in the journey of full recovery. Glad this thread is still going strong and many have taken the advice to get checked , we keep going .

Up the blues.
