Protest v Wolves

Don't they give school kids tickets away for free on CL nights? Or do the schools pay?

If there are thousands of tickets available offer them away to local fans with supporter numbers and purchase history. Say turn up and get free tickets on the night or day. Place would be rammed first come first served. Complimentaries they used to be called.

Although touts then got hold of them and flogged them outside the North stand.
£10 a game I'd hardly call that touting (unless we were on a special price as it was a friend of our kids from Sunday Football)

Yep. Agree with you both.

It's really disheartening to see a game like last night not absolutely packed, when the only reason it wasn't was that so many people have been priced out. I really struggle to get my head around how empty seats could be more preferable than that.

The club is going through an amazing period in our history, however, as we have seen with other clubs, nothing is guaranteed and it won't last forever. The fans are the lifeblood of the club, the administrators are temporary custodians.

Last night's banner was very poignant. For many of us going to watch City spans multiple generations, its a tradition we want to continue and for many that is now in doubt, because of greed.
Good post and I span many decades but feel like the club want shot of my demographic. I can’t help thinking that when we can’t fill the existing stadium how on earth are we going to fill the north stand extension. Once we are no longer top dogs the tourists will disappear elsewhere and the club will have a half empty stadium. The idea of attending 10 prem home games as a season ticket holder does not take into account the more distant OSC’s so I can see a large number in my branch not renewing not to mention the Costa Blanca OSC

I am no lover of Preston having had shit kicked out of me there as a 14 year old and my finger broken foolishly going there with Blackpool mates. However take my hat off to the club making £5 admission for adults and £1 for kids at their last home game against Plymouth. This is the way to encourage future support, hope they get a full house, always delighted when City cut prices for cup ties.

They probably thought breaking a finger was OK because if you were like them you had 12 of them to fall back on.

Don't think I've seen that many empty seats for a league game since the Pearce days, well done the suits at City you are fucking up our club
Fact of the matter is, if that game was Saturday afternoon it would have been virtually, if not full.

There are many reasons for last night's attendance fuck up but shifting to mid week knocks at least 5k off the actual attendance.

S/T's get passed on meaning people don't have to buy.

S/T's get returned to the Exchange meaning more available for the casual fan to buy, or not buy!

I would love to see the figure for the 37k named S/T holders who actually went in person last night.

The Family Stand was half empty, NO SHIT SHERLOCK!
2000 ko on a school night, first day back after Easter and all that.

And that includes the large block that appeared to be a group of some sorts.

Midweek games arranged at short notice can be a pain for a lot of people. You only have to read the posts on BM to see that.

There’s been other rearranged midweek games though that weren’t as empty. There were more people for the Leicester game for instance.

This was a really important match that we would usually be close to selling out. Sounds like you’ve said every excuse, other than the ridiculous prices

Not really, there were loads of S/ T holders missing in SS2 and most of those in the FS will be S/T's too.

Price can't be blamed on S/T holders not going.

Yeah, he forgot to mention ticket prices on purpose.

Imagine writing that list out and not mentioning the price of the match tickets.

Price of exchange tickets didn’t help, but I’m surprised so many season ticket holders didn’t bother with such an important game.We don’t really know how many exchange tickets were actually sold.

Why would I need to mention ticket prices specifically when I said there are lots of reasons.

Ticket prices are not the only factor for the lower attendance last night

eh? I was talking about touting tickets outside the Maine Road, North stand hundreds of years ago.

touts sold comp tickets.

I posted the below in the Priced Out thread but it belongs here as well:

Yep. I had some dickhead half and half scarf seller of all people having a pop at me last night while I was handing out the protest leaflets near the tram stop. Turns out he's a season ticket holder. It all started off ok when I was showing him the leaflet but his cluelessness came racing to the surface straight away when he saw the match day prices for the Villa game on the leaflet and said that he thought the tickets for Villa fans were capped at £30. I pointed out that these were home end ticket prices. Then he started getting all defensive about the club. Now he's entitled to his opinion like the rest of us but some of his takes were unreal and full of shit.

I asked him whether he thought it was fair that a family of 4 should pay between £228 and £292 for last night's game. His answer was that he's a ST holder who stumps up all his money up front so in that case it absolutely is fair. I said "So how does a working class family from Manchester afford to pay that?" His answer: "Well those ticket prices aren't aimed at those people as they know they can fill it with other fans". To which I asked "So how come there are thousands of unsold tickets for tonight?" Not much of an answer to that one as you can imagine

I asked him what he would do if he was ever priced out. His answer was simply "I'll just accept it and not go".

Then I asked him what he would do if he got affected by the 10 games minumum attendance stipulation for next season and what he would think to it if he broke his leg and had to miss shit loads of games, putting his 10 game minimim attendance in jeopardy: "I'll just get someone to go to the ground, scan my season ticket and then walk back out again". Yep, like fuck you would mate.

I asked him how does a child follow in his/her father's/mother’s footsteps by getting a season ticket when no new season tickets have been issued for years: "Use someone else's season ticket then". Like it's that fucking easy!

I asked him how the likes of Bayern Munich can have thousands of dirt-cheap season tickets without jeopardising all their other revenue streams and still managing to compete at the top table: "What are you bringing those German cunts into it for? It's a 1 team league"......."But Borussia Dortmund and other German clubs sell cheap season tickets too"......"So what"

The icing on the cake was him telling me that the biggest complaints amongst fellow season ticket holders around him were the number of randomers being there, and implied that we should be specifically focusing on that, yet the cheeky **** was there selling half and half scarves to the very type of people that he'd just been slagging off!

Funnily enough, the United supporting half and half scarf seller who was with him put the prick to shame because he actually got the gist of why we were protesting.

Oh, and we're all moaners apparently. We never do anything else but moan and he told me I'd been moaning ever since we left Maine Road. How he could draw that conclusion when he'd only known me for 15 minutes is beyond me!

Something else he said that’s just come to me. Apparently the new North Stand and all the associated facilities aren’t being built with us long-standing fans in mind. And the way he said it implied that he was ok with that!

Haha the fucking cheek.

Probably because he's preying on one-off visits and tourists to pay those prices and also be able to afford a half and half scarf.

Thankfully a lot of blues have hit back at this 'I'm alright Jack' mentality. Roll on the 6 minute protest v Wolves.

It's mad that a lot of media and fans of others clubs have said our prices were ridiculous last night and yet some of our own don't understand. I've been on Newcastle, Forest, Villa forums etc... to have a nosey and they couldn't believe £71 was the cheapest adult ticket and £45 for kids.

Keep up the good work mate.

It was arranged very late and half the country were on holiday. If it hadn't been rearranged twice, once at short notice, people may have been able to go.

If it got played on Saturday it would be a complete sell out regardless of the prices as it was a key game.

Why would I need to mention ticket prices specifically when I said there are lots of reasons.

Ticket prices are not the only factor for the lower attendance last night
It’s one of the main factors. It’s why large numbers of tickets in ss3 away end against Leicester were sold - as it was cheap. Affordable tickets through city, the exchange and elsewhere mean less empty seats and more people able to attend the game.

If season ticket holders don’t show up then other fans should be able to afford/buy tickets. Why wouldn’t you mention that in your long list?

Because ticket prices are the main reason.

Your other points are valid.

I'm sure it hasn't escaped people's attention.

When an away club doesn't take up their full away allocation at the Etihad, and 1000+ tickets in the away end on SSL3 are sold to City fans instead, they sell out in a matter of days, with adult tickets costing £30. Not only that, if fans are fast enough they can get 2, 3, and 4 tickets together, so they can go as a family. I doubt very much that many of those 1000+ fans would go to the match if they had to pay £71 for a ticket.
