Protests outside a Batley School

Maybe you are missing the point ... certain people can burn Union Flags, they can incite hatred on the streets and nothing seems to happen because we have gone way past the point where the police have the power or the inclination to deal with these things decisively. They have given those in our midst who are intent on dividing communities far too much rope (leniency)

The flip-side is my niece who was asked by the police to take down a flag of St.George during a football tournament because it "may offend certain residents"... She did, I wouldn't have done unless they put the request in writing

Total bullshit that anybody would pander to one group with protected characteristics by penalising another group who don't identify as a specific religion perhaps but are impacted unfairly by the beliefs of the other group...

The country has gone for me in this respect..... It went a long time ago

When and where was this?

You don't need permission to fly the flag of St George if you are the property owner/occupier and it isn't causing a nuisance and interfering with road signs.

During the last Euros or World Cup ...

But where?

That was the law during the last World cup.

You will notice that the law also provides implied permission for administrative regions of other countries, not just their national flags. As the Flag of St Ambrose (flag of Milan and other areas in Northern Italy) is practically identical to the flag of St George, you could tell the coppers it was that flag instead and there would nothing they could do to get it removed. You can also fly the flag of Mozambique that features an AK47 and the same applies.
